New Watch Brand Called Baume

Postby koimaster » May 16th 2018, 7:06pm

Yes, you heard right. The luxury Richemont Group has just launched a new watch brand — an affordable one at that. Yes, you also heard right, the new brand is called Baume — mostly because it was conceived of and begun under the auspices of its “mother” brand Baume & Mercier. Additionally, the new brand — which now has its own design team and leader, veteran Richemont Group product director Marie Chassot — is geared for a better future and is created using sustainable, up-cycled and recycled materials. In addition to the Iconic line, the new brand will also offer a completely customizable watch via an on-line configurator — with retail prices starting at about $560. So, with so much news here it is important to dissect this story fully, but the most important thing to take note of here is that a luxury watch group — the Richemont Group — has unveiled a $600 average-price-range all-new watch brand … and calls it Baume. Keep these points in mind as we explore this story.

For once, I don't think a new concept is total BS, and I can't imagine Baume not backing the products. I don't know if it's my cup of tea, but it is, at the very least, interesting and forward thinking. Not awful.

While the lugs want me want to break my own fingers, the dials appear to be well done as do the cases.

Respectable concept with a bit of flair for the average hipster.

Should be a nice price when they hit grey market which I predict will.occur sooner rather than later.

“Iconic”, lol. Instant icon, just add horseshit!

Unimaginative name aside, I quite like these, but the movements are a bit gash. Probably about as expensive to buy in as a quartz ETA, also made entirely by robots. But soul, etc.

No. Currently, a few microbrands are.
Back in the day, most Dutch brands were only registered there, the watches were made mostly in Switzerland, or using Swiss movements.
Frankly, this is still not really a change, as these Baume things use Japanese movements.

Probably same as Garfunkel when Simon said he was going solo.

I'm reading that the Miyota autos are standard fare, not 9015.
Seems like a lot of money and hype for what it is.I see all the "good for the planet" stuff, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As one guy at TZ commented "A Richemont brand with a Japanese movement? What's next dogs and cats getting married?"

Some of the offerings appeal to me visually...but Miyota movements beneath their 9015 offerings?...a little over priced in my book...

Have I already commented on the design of them? Looks like I haven't. Well, here's what I think...
I think that these watches are ghey, ghastly, revolting piles of overpriced rubbish. They look like some bastard offspring of Daniel Wellington and a dozen Kickstarter micros. I'm not saying that this Miyota is a bad movement, but at that price point, they can shove it up their arses, along with at least ten table legs. And may Ron Jeremy fuck them in the ear.

Fuck it, I thought the lug treatment was ok. Better than a Nomos, which just looks crude, like they wore themselves out “designing” someone else’s dial layout, and couldn’t be arsed with the rest of it.

I’d have the open grey dialled one with a steel case - but at half the price.
