1947-48 Bulova Excellency JJ

Postby kevco » April 11th 2019, 9:20am

Was listed as a "Treasurer' model..so not quite sure.
Anyway movement has a 1947 date stamp and the 30mm case serial number dates to 1948. The bottle cap bezel gives it a snazzy look.
Very nice and clean 21j 10K movement. When the second hand moves it is so smooth it almost looks like it is powered by electric current.
Very nice Gemex slide adjustable gf bracelet.
..paid $66.00

Very Chic. You could sport that while attending the premiere of Gentlemans Agreement.

Amazing watch for next to nothing.
The Gemex band, although similar to the original is not, is worth more than what you paid for the watch/band combo.
Great find.

Here is a NOS example.

And an advert from 1949.

Thanks Kev.
I wonder if Coca~Cola chose this model because of the 'bottle cap' case? :D

If you look at a Bulova movement, they seem plain compared to say Elgin or Hamiltons.
It's only when you see the individual parts in close-up that you find the real difference, as each tiny part is highly polished, and sharp edges are bevelled.

Kev - excellent post, excellent deal, just outstanding all the way around. Best thread in ages - THIS is watch collecting. You're a braver soul than I, but your eagle eye has served you well.

Thank you so much. This made my day.
I have struck out a few times.
But fortunately I have a watch repair guy who is a 3rd generation (and probably last, as his son wants to be a doctor) here in Tulsa.
He is a couple or three years older than me..60ish and I use him often.
He can do it all..as long as replacement parts are available.

One day when I'm gone my 2 boys are gonna get a collection they know next to nothing about (over 325 watches). It gives me pleasure and that's all that matters.

If you were to itemize your collection, with some references to advertising and site posts about your watches, and make hard copy for your children to see after you are gone then maybe they could appreciate the hard work, dedication and thoughtfulness you have put into your collection.

I have a spreadsheet with all of them listed. Features, specs., how much I paid, services performed, and from whom I bought it from. Also personal comments about how I feel about the watch.

Sounds like a good book (or blog) to me. Seriously.

Amen to that.
