They matter if you might sell the watch at some point. If you see the watch as a keeper then no, they don't matter as long as the warranty period is over.

They do with a vintage watch, it shows somebody cared usually.

Yup. It doesn't really matter when buying pre-owned, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
