A fun and fugly impulse pickup to start the summer

A fun and fugly impulse pickup to start the summer

Postby SaoGage » May 26th 2017, 6:07am

I have a tendency to obsessively research and contemplate the majority of my major watch purchases. Every once in a while, it's fun to just freely browse the Bay and sales forums and go after something I wouldn't normally buy on a whim. I've surprised myself over the years in finding some really cool and fun watches this way.

Enter the Seiko Starfish, aka Samurai Shurricane ...

This thing is a beast. It's heavy and very thick, but it wears pretty comfortably on the Seiko rubber (probably won't use the included Monster bracelet). It's fugly, but I think it has a cool look to it.

Does it come in brown? :)

Very nice find actually.

I don't think it's that fugly. Bet it runs like a top.

That is a lot of watch! Nothing wrong with buying funky and fun.

I have always flipped those purchases; but, I do enjoy them to play with.

Great pickup, Mr. Gage! Granted, it's probably not the sort of thing I look for myself, but that's part of the fun of the hobby.
I checked you out, and I now want you to take the journey to lick my taint. It's small, but vast.

But seriously, that is a fun looking watch, reminds a bit of the Citizen Orca.

I really like it and the half Citizen half Seiko sounds just right. Haven't looked at the specs yet but prolly beyond my wimp wrists.

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's a big one. States 44mm diameter but it wears and feels larger IMO. It's at least 15mm thick and very heavy, but in true Seiko fashion the short lugs really help it wear better than it would otherwise.

I'm really enjoying it so far, I think it'll be a fun summer beater/water watch. I debated between this one and the white one which seems to be the most commonly desired model, but I like the look of the black bezel more than the metal color on the white one.

I like the guarded bezel feature, will prevent accidental movement.
