Oregon Watchmaker Resource - Kelly Hunter UPDATE: BEWARE

Postby jaw » May 8th 2015, 6:22pm

To my Oregon WIS.

As you know a good watchmaker is pretty scarce in these parts. I met Kelly at Watchworks in Portland who I hate to visit cause, well...the owner is a pompous ass. Their pre-owned stuff is extensive and nice but way overpriced IMO, their new stuff is full MSRP.

Anyway...Kelly was always great and has left Watchworks to start his own business that I visited today in West Linn. Not a retail shop, but he usually has some choice pieces up for sale - contemporary and vintage. Super clean shop, equipped with everything necessary to do the job. In the past he has authenticated my pre-owned purchases, made recommendations, serviced a couple Breitlings, and knows his shit. If you ever need a competent reliable watchmaker give him a ring, text, or email.

Great info. Reasonable watchmakers are scarce everywhere.
The guy I use (but not for awhile) has a small storefront retail operation that sells Ball , Mido , Hamilton , and a few others and used to be an authorized Omega repair facility until Omega insisted that their work orders take priority over all others. Great and well trained (Swiss) staff of watchmakers but , over the years they have become crazy expensive. Is Kelly still reasonable? Would he look at a couple watches and provide an estimate for an East Coast slob?? I'll gladly pay shipping costs for an estimate.

Why, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Honestly I used him the most while at Watchworks, no heavy service under his new banner yet - but I will. No harm in asking him about remote work, all he can say is yes or no. Knowing Kelly I'd give it a shot.

Thanks for the heads up, jaw! A guy like this is more valuable than gold.
I checked you out, and I now want you to take the journey to lick my taint. It's small, but vast.

Chip Kelly? I'd be careful with black dialed watches, he'll toss them in the garbage, no matter how valuable.

Cripes - I live in NYC where there's a "watchmaker" every six blocks, and in the entire city, I've found all of two I can trust.

Good info about good people is always valuable.
Since many people weren't in lockstep with his beloved cheese box shit watch brand, The Cruise King ran off blowing snot bubbles, far away from his once-beloved forum. Here, eat this mudpie, Paw Paw. It tastes like a Hershey bar. Go ahead, dig in.
