I can hardly wait for Joe Besser's book on Life In the Joint. Damn... This gives me an idea for a new Geekish Thread...

Huh. I've never heard of the National Publicity Summit.

Yup. He looks like he should be wearing a down vest with a copy of The Catcher In the Rye peeking out of the pocket.

Yup. There are a multitude of ways to separate an aspiring author/jerkoff from his money. On the plus side, this is $6K less that Joe Besser can spend on long guns and ammunition.

Back when I was in the entertainment business, I used to attend these independent recording industry trade shows/networking conferences. The biggest motherfucking crackpots you ever saw used to spend untold thousands of dollars attending these things looking for "record deals" or national distribution for their music CDs. For me, these conferences were worth their weight in gold because I usually got good traction and met everyone I could think of in my genre of music - but you could smell the amateurs as they raced toward you with business cards and goodie bags full of pure shit and deceased roadkill. Pasty 47-year-old guys with toupees like Brillo pads trying to get "deals" for their albums of "original rock"; show biz mommies dragging their kids' boy bands to "showcase" in hotel lobbies; hordes of people without a shred of obvious talent all trying to grab some sort of brass ring. It was easy to tell the professionals from the misplaced, and it was kind of sad to watch. That is, when it wasn't fucking hilarious. Seems that people without a shred of talent or even a clue were welcomed at these things, because they were the marks that made the whole thing possible.

Wow, just clicked that link. Those conferences are just cash cows for the people that organize them. Nobody achieves anything (or worse yet, learns anything), but those "guest speakers" get a tax write off and a trip to NYC or wherever; everybody except invited guests pays through the nose to be there.

Never, EVER attend a forum, conference, or "workshop." EVER. Worse yet are "job fairs." I mean, has anyone ever even MET someone who got a job at a job fair?

Bumping this for nostalgia, a most magnificent drywall incident upon exit (the way real trolls are supposed to act).

Working hard to find a "Letter from Marion" sent to Penthouse Forum. ;)

No matter how low Joel sinks in life, I hope he takes comfort in the fact, that at least here, due to his psychotic rants and amateurish attempts to con and manipulate, he will remain the man, the legend, that is truly the sugarbear, er.., sugeblaze..
We called another exterminator to take care of the rat problem in the basement. This one hasn't come out either.

A bump for this one; a fond drywall impact, to be lovingly pressed into the Book of Memories.

Will we ever see his like again - or any of the greats of Trolldom? Trolls have been mighty scarce for the last couple of years and the supply of new red troll (or even geek) meat has been replaced with a thin gruel...(sigh) We stand like Alexander, who wept that there were no more empires to conquer.
"General, those brave men will not surrender - what shall we do?"
"Kill them all then, colonel. I would not have them be brave in the Devil's service!"
