by Tracey Llewellyn "On the subject of an in-house movement, Baume & Mercier CEO Alain Zimmermann is clear: “Throughout the 20th century, high-end watchmaking was carried out from the perspective of the client – precision and reliability were paramount. And then, a few years ago, all the hype about manufacture calibres started. Everybody challenged me on why Baume did not have its own movement. But for me, if we were going to do it, it had to have meaning and not just be for the sake of it. And, most importantly, it could not have a negative impact on the price of the watch.”"

B&M makes an in-house movement, puts it in a watch that isn't the size of a saucer, and that looks quite fucking lovely? And I thought they'll never make anything cool. And just look, they did actually make a good-looking watch that doesn't have me yawning!

Guess they won't get rid of the Baumatic name. The original Baumatic was introduced - IIRC - in the 1950s, so the name's nothing new, and throwback to vintage models is quite the cash cow these days.

Naming convention rings of a nether region medical procedure.

Well put. Most B&M offerings I pay no mind to, but this one is intriguing.
