Field Marshall STOLEN in ATL

Field Marshall STOLEN in ATL

Postby four diamonds-BANNED » December 1st 2018, 8:25pm

The Field Marshall made it safely to ATL and has been hanging out and likely bored.

Tomorrow will be better as the afternoon will be spent at the Falcons/Ravens game :D and my first trip to Mercedes Benz stadium (the same venue Alabama beat UGA today). I don't have high hopes for a Falcons win, but it will be a chance to explore the new stadium.

It was sunny when he arrived, but the weather has been either rainy or cold since, curtailing outdoor activities, so most trips were to the office. Today, it rained so he helped me out around the office. He sucks at paperwork and spend most of his time reading watch forums.

It appears that the Field Marshall is in good hands!
I checked you out, and I now want you to take the journey to lick my taint. It's small, but vast.

It was a nice today, in the 70's, so we took the Field Marshall to Mercedes Benz stadium for the Falcons game. Actually, it was the Ravens game today.

But no matter, the stadium is fabulous and was worth the trip notwithstanding the outcome of the game. First NFL game for the Field Marshall and my first event at MB stadium. All in all a good day.

That will not be easy to top, verdammt. Of course the Marshal first needs to cross the Atlantic now, and even for the Admiral that turned out to be quite a challenge.

I'm up for some Spunk action (IYSWIM) but after New Year is a lot better, due to travel and the solid likelihood that I'll not be around to receive it; is anyone else up for taking it on This Side first?

Last time the Admiral took several weeks to get admitted through German customs, but in the end I got him without major hassle or duties to be paid. His way back over the ocean was a whole other story of course... Now since I have moved to Denmark, I am almost 100% certain the Fieldmarshal would have to go through the greedy hands of the Danish customs - and these guys are known for their lack of humor and understanding. But I can offer to be the first hosting him here in the old world, on the other hand, I suggest to give him another couple of days of rest and recreation with the good four of diamonds.

I have banned four of diamonds for not even having the class to let me know that he either sold, broke, gave away or decided to keep the Marshall. Despite my phone call with him in the beginning of April and the excuses I heard on the phone, crickets since. I have since purchased a replacement for the Marshall.

Ah, drag. Can I take a crack at this next time around? Is there a general etiquette for such things around here somewhere? Like, how long does one keep it, etc?

Step 1: Allow members to sign up as participants in the "pass around". Usually a week is enough time to get a group together
Step 2:Arrange an "itinerary" for those involved. That means determining who is, or isn't willing to ship overseas. Schedule accordingly.
Step 3: Post a list of the participants and the order in which the pass around will proceed. A week is the usual time of possesion, sometimes less and rarely more.
Step 4: If you initiated the pass around then you are responsible for keeping track and reminding the current host where to send it next
Step 5: Have a plan as to what will ultimately become of the watch when all is said and done. I had an auction once the Admiral had completed his journey.

Just so you know-it ain't as simple as it looks.

What, like, shipping overseas? ;-)
But apart from that You are right. It requires someone to keep track.

I have a nomination for the next admiral, if anyone is interested...how about this version of our forum's darling...I've had it for a few weeks now and it has already developed some fine looking patina..would enjoy it experiencing some exposure to other parts of the world..

Let me know what you folks think..it would be nice, though, if someone else would keep track of it's progress.. ;)

That's a pretty big risk. Great gesture but with all that shipping you never know what could happen. It might convert some to bronze though.

What if a receiving member puts up a refundable deposit each time it changed hands??

It is doable if the member on the list can cough up the deposit dough, is trust worthy and not an accountant living in Georgia.
Would be a new twist on the WL concept, sending out a "higher end" wartch and yada/yada/yada.

We did this on a car forum with a specialty tool purchased by a me. It was passed around the country like a case of the clap, most members "contributed" $10-20 for use offsetting the original purchase price and it was returned without any signs of abuse. Damn thing changed hands over a dozen times.
Perhaps car people are more trust worthy??

Four of diamonds account was just deleted although his posts have been retained. As to sending out a new watch, decide you want to do, open a new thread with the names of who is going to receive it. I recommend posting a shipping date to each person it is going to. While a deposit may or maynot be a good idea this has always been based on trust. Just because a cpa in atlanta turned out to be the exception to the trust rule, do not let it taint the entire game.

Is there a way to insure a higher end pass-around against loss or misadventure with each receiver contributing to the insurance cost rather than a deposit? Or such insurance could be supported by member donation.

The recipient could mail the Pass Around via ensured mail..would the Glycine bronze 42mm Sub be a good choice, in your opinion?..I know you own one..

Sure - a great choice - as long as you're willing to run the risk of loss. Although if it were insured, you'd receive the payout for a loss. After all, the problem with the Field Marshal wasn't that it was lost in delivery but lost, stolen or strayed during its stay with a recipient - so I don't know if shipping insurance is the way to go. There's got to be some other type of insurance that better fits the circumstances. A type of term insurance maybe? It would be interesting to have each sponsor take a patina progress picture during each stopover. Showing them in sequence would be pretty neat - and as the rooster noted, there could be some bronze converts.
