Grand Seiko Introduces Elegance Collection

Grand Seiko Introduces Elegance Collection

Postby koimaster » February 5th 2019, 9:54am

The Elegance Collection is an all-new line for Grand Seiko that made its debut late last year with a pair of quartz watches. Now it’s grown to include mechanical models with the 9S63, a newly developed, hand-wound movement. And the line also includes two limited edition models with dials finished in urushi, or traditional Japanese lacquer.

Described as “mechanical thin dress series” by Seiko, the Elegance Collection is exactly that. While the case is inspired by the current Grand Seiko cases, it has a more rounded form, as well as shorter lugs. The watches are available in gold or steel, but share the same slim case that measures 39mm by 11.6mm. Notably, the sapphire display back is screw-down.

The SS version at $6,800.00 or so is still a bit pricy..someone needs to talk Robatsu into buying one for us at a steep discount... :)

Seeing this coming from Grand Seiko is odd - it's like walking into what's supposed to be a bordello, and what turns out to be a convent.

My feeling is that they are going to revive the King Seiko brand or do something similar eventually as GS gets pushed into the ultra high-end range, seems to be their target.

Interesting stuff, but I'd like to see watches like that at 38 or 37 rather than 39.

If I wanted a precious metal handwinder, I'd just pick up one of the Royal Orient, they came in both yellow gold and sterling cases, are pretty common on secondary market in Japan for under 2k.
