Real World Test: Diving with the ...........

Interesting that part of this article just repeats what we did here.

Being a scuba diver [Ed’s note: the author is a PADI Master Scuba Diver and PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) Instructor] and a watch enthusiast, I decided to put a few well known – and respected – dive watches through their underwater paces on a diving trip that took place in December 2016 off the island of Bali, primarily around the village of Tulamben.

I have read this somewhere before. I recall that even though it was the only non-ISO compliant watch and has the poorest legibility in the water the Submariner was his pick.

Quickly, how long has he been diving according to his Sub...

He also criticises the Turtle for having a bezel that isn't easy to move. Um hello, that is a benefit not a cost in a dive watch bezel.

I know I pick on stuff, but....

Its a bit of a worry for an EFR instructor to claim decompression in diving is to manage 'the dissolved gas in the bloodstream'. Um, nope. That answer wouldn't pass on the rescue diver exam. You are managing the differential pressure of excess nitrogen gas in all tissues.

The changes Rolex made to the modern SeaDweller made it ISO compliant, so they seem to disagree with you.

The Sub is being left as it is though because its an iconic looking watch and more the fashion diver of their line-up these days. The green Sub version even more so, the bezel numbers just don't have enough contrast when in the water. Its a diver-styled fashion watch version of what used to be a serious dive tool.

I'm not dissing Rolex. The SeaDweller is the real thing and holds it's own with any other dive watch. IMO its a much better dive watch than the Fifty Fathoms or Ploprof and on par with the 1000m Tuna. The fact the Sub costs more than a Tuna and isn't up to par in this company is why I am disparaging about it.

For me the best are the Orient Saturation Diver at the lower end, the 1000m Tuna mid-range, and the DeepSea at the higher end.
