Is It Luck, Or Has Justice Been Done?

Postby MKTheVintageBloke » October 14th 2017, 2:15pm

Just started watching Hoodwinkee's last "Friday Live", where the great news have been announced...

The guy behind Bring a Loupe, a weekly fest of rancid hype, and the mastermind of the redial-and-frankenwatch-selling fleecer's den called the Hodinkee Shop, Louis, is no longer with Hoodwinkee. That being only weeks after the Donkeys have sold another franken! Coincidence, or justice?

For two weeks, there hasn't been a Bring a Loupe, which means two weeks of peace for the vintage watch market.

And only yesterday, there's this announcement...

I wonder if that's a coincidence, or could it be, that after months of heavy Bring a Brain barrage at WUS (with thousands of views - BaB XIV alone got north of 5600!), my wee crusade has finally brought some results?

I dearly hope, that whoever the successor to Louis might be, won't do the same thing, or at least will know certain limits on open lies and cons at the site (pronounce the S the Sean Connery way) and the Shop. Yes, sadly Hoodwinkee wants to continue Bring a Loupe, the piece to which Bring a Brain owes its name. I would find it odd if they didn't.

May I only announce this: should this be a sign of Hoodwinkee improving, there will be less Bring a Brains coming, since I only publish these when it's necessary, when shit hits the fan, and the community turns a blind eye, because "hey, it's Hodinkee, and they can't be wrong."

But to Jove I swear, that should it get worse, Bring a Brain shall give the Donkeys no quarter. If so, it will appear regularly, the bombardment will be heavier than ever, and the show will go on, presented to you by yours truly, in the best possible way- the Bring a Brain way.

Fare thee well and good riddance, Louis, I'm glad that thou no longer art in the business of fleecing, lies and hype. Go collecting like we do, experience the shit you've been fueling for so long, that fucking inferno that you've been putting out with high-octane bloody gasoline.

Meanwhile, we - we the WIS community - can enjoy the (hopefully not particularly) short period of peace.

End of communique.

Fighting the good fight is always worth it, Mr. Bloke. We've been doing this at Watchlords for a long time, and some even before the forum was founded.

There will always be dumbasses who buy what they shouldn't, and you can't stop all of them. But stopped a few from doing a dumb purchase is always good work, and to be commended, goddamn it.
I checked you out, and I now want you to take the journey to lick my taint. It's small, but vast.

There's still quite a bit of good sites out there. Watches By SJX, Worn&Wound, Monochrome, Time + Tide Watches... Fratello would be OK, if they didn't sell out their subscribers' email addresses to microbrands, and if they weren't Omega's bitch.

I never quite understood all the people wanking to Hodinkee content - they do take good photos, but their writing is rubbish, their expertise was never there (or if it was, then what's left of it sucks flaccid cock), they have no fucking notion of ethics in journalism. Not to mention selling unserviced and mostly dirt-common watches at outrageous prices, with the listings containing open lies and examples of their utter lack of knowledge. Oh, and then there's the redials and frankens. They're posers, they're fleecers, they're bozos. They're donkeys.

I agree completely, Mr. Conjurer, and I will keep fighting it. For the sake of the fight, and for the audience's education and entertainment. And, obviously, for my own entertainment :D

Which is yet another part of why I really like the place!

Well said, Mr. Conjurer. As they say, a fool and his money are always parted. But frankly, I see no reason for not making an effort to stop them from being parted from their money, and - hopefully - set them on the right path, out of foolishness, and into awareness.

I thank thee for thy kind words, Mr. Biglove.
Watches By SJX is quite good - they do fairly decent reviews, the photos appear to be top-notch, and they don't really do any vintage watch hype, as they simply seem to lack an ulterior motive. Even if they had one, it's nowhere near that of the Donkeys.
