A thought that occurs is checking with local shelters. We used Houston's to spay/neuter our poopers because they were still over 200 less than going private and did just as good a job. We made a donation to them so others can be helped. The local county shelter offers discounted vet services to those who can demonstrate some need.

It is difficult hearing about a pet that is suffering. The little creatures give us unconditional love and companionship.
Good luck to you and your pet. Your fiancee sounds pretty incredible.

Amazing how humans bond with animals when all they want to do is eat us, lick us to death or leave hair all over the place.

My pugs are Olympic-level experts at farting. Quite good at snoring, too.

Our pets love us unconditionally!!! (Just like a good watch...you just have to keep them clean and take them to the jeweler once in awhile!). And, like watches, it's too difficult to only have one (pet),er...watch...actually, BOTH!!!

I was avowed cat hater (sorry) until a little one adopted us. We recently had to spend about $2,000 on Vet bills and I don't begrudge one penny of that money. It's worth whatever I can afford to have little Minnie back to normal.

Hey solchitlins, my good friend Ernest McCracken and I are rooting for your doggy.

Dogs are one of the finest creatures to have ever walked this planet. That they love a shitty species like human beings with the loyalty they do speaks volumes about how wonderful they are.

Here is my little man, sleeping on the couch. I love his little T-Rex arms. He gets so excited to see me, I want to be the person he thinks I am.

Image

I haven't had him neutered yet. He was 5 months old when I got him and I just thought that it would be very painful to have it done it he didn't need it. He is almost 2 now and I am going to have to take him in. I told him he would feel like a guy that goes out to a club, gets slipped a micky and wakes up in a bathtub full of ice, missing a kidney.

Agree 100%, take a look at the cast of characters (myself included) sharing true empathy and concern in this thread.

Solchitlins, Michigan State Univ has a great teaching clinic. Veterinary costs there are lower because of that, but the care is fantastic. East Lansing isn't too far from you. Check them out as well as the other options you are looking at.

I have two pugs, about 4 year olds. They are prone to many health issues, including the one your dog is having. I agree with Mr Feathers, see if a Vet program is close. Similar to getting a cheaper hair cut from a stylist school. Good luck.

My fiancé claims this is what the vet thinks the problem is, what I posted earlier was his second guess. I was so freaked out and in shock I couldn't keep it straight. Both require surgery so not sure if one is better than the other. His third guess was something about the dog version of rumetoid arthritis requiring injections the rest of his life.

Sorry for the troubles with your pal- it sounds to me like you need a second opinion from a Vet that specializes in ortho... It should not be too expensive as you already have films; a good vet won't have a problem with it. IDK abt your area, but a University with a vet school is your best bet. I hope there is one close or within a reasonable drive. Keeping a good thought for you man!

Animals love us despite our lackings. I lost my faithful Lab of 12 years not long ago and I believe part of me went with her. I miss her terribly, best dog I ever had. Hang on to that little fellow as I am sure he is as loyal to you, as you are to him. In light of that, I wishing you and your family all the best.

Umm..I hope your little dog gets better. Maybe we could start a karma thread and people could donate towards a surgery fund.

Nope. Stick with the vet or you subject your puppy to undue delayed treatments.
