FS: New model Seiko Prospex Solar Titanium diver

FS: New model Seiko Prospex Solar Titanium diver

Postby SaoGage » July 11th 2016, 11:48am

The model number escapes me at the moment, but I'm going to be listing this one for sale. I always find it a silly remark in sales threads but it's applicable here; I'm just not bonding with it. The quality is there, but I think part of the problem is the case shape is more or less the same as my Grand Seiko SBGA029 and I find myself wanting to wear that when I put it on.

I'm listing this here first for the Lords, but I'm probably going to throw it up on WUS as well.

$400.00 shipped and paypal'd CONUS. Condition is 99% and the watch is only a month old. I paid $550 via a Japanese reseller on Amazon. Comes with all links and all boxes/paperwork that I was given.

The quality of this is slightly higher than Sumo level, IMO. And this is Diashield titanium as I understand it, so it should be more scratch resistant than normal.

Is that blue or black?

Would love to know the dimensions.

Blue. The dial is radiant and the bezel is also blue.

It's about 44mm in diameter, but it has very long lugs. Over 50mm IIRC. Very similar dimensions to the Sumo including 20mm lugs. I'll look up exact dimensions when I return from work.

Model is SBDJ011. The stats I could find are 44.1mm in diameter and 12.4 height. Let me see if I can find the lug to lug.

FFS, I don't need another Seiko diver.

Sao, if you had to choose, would you go with this one or the Sumo? And why?

I love my Sumo but don't have room in my collection for both.

A fine looking Seiko, no error. GLWS!
I checked you out, and I now want you to take the journey to lick my taint. It's small, but vast.

Interestingly, it's probably threads like this that got us kicked off Watchrecon.

Sorry, just seeing this comment.

Honestly difficult question to answer. While they're similar in dimensions and price (with this being slightly more expensive atm for slightly better finishing and titanium), I still see the Sumo as the better overall value. 6r15 auto (an underrated movement, if you ask me) in one of the best executed cases you'll find at that price. This here is just a plain ol' unsexy solar quarts, where the majority of the appeal is in the diashield titanium and Brightz level finishing.

9/10 I'd go for the Sumo, which I'd still argue is a better watch. I bought this on an impulse to try something different. Don't regret it, but like I said, I strap it on and then reach for my Grand Seiko whereas the Sumo feels different enough that I could own a Sumo and my GS and they would scratch different itches.

I need to take a pic of this side by side with my SBGA029, while there's obviously no comparison in finish between the two, I think you all would be surprised how similar they are in look and case shape. It's actually uncanny, like the SBGA029 was the design inspiration for this line. But that's just my opinion, this one here is certainly a bit more angular than the GS.

Thanks for taking the time to give your honest opinion.

Congrats to both buyer and seller! Maybe this will end the summer drought as far as forum watch sales.
