Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III

Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III

Protecting one of Australia’s largest and most diverse reef systems, The Great Barrier Reef, from the effects of coral bleaching among others has been a top priority for Oris for quite some time. Since 2016, the independent Swiss Watch company has partnered with the Reef Restoration Foundation based in Northern Queensland, supporting coral plantation projects off Fitzroy Island near Cairns. In an endeavour, to bring change for the better, Oris has created the third instalment of its Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition timepiece. Introducing the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III.

Based on the legendary Oris Aquis, the overall colour palette of this high-performance diver’s watch is extremely refreshing. The gradient aqua blue dial and aqua blue ceramic bezel stands out instantly and is a nod to the colours of the reef waters. What accentuates the presence of the dial even further is the circular date window at the centre, the discrete yellow accents and the small seconds indicator at 9 o’clock. The indexes and the hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for greater legibility even in low light conditions. The signature ‘Aquis’ name has been proudly placed just above 6 o’clock.

Unfortunately for Oris the conservative Party got re-elected in Oz and they are pushing forward the development one of the world's largest coal mines next to the Barrier Reef. A lot of it's effluent and coal product will be shipped right through the reef itself. The fact that the market for this coal is steadily decreasing doesn't seem to matter to them.

Go conservatives!

I want to dislike this watch, yet I don't.

Insomnia, I tell ya.
