Seiko discontinuing SARB033/035, SARB017, SBDX017

Postby Racer-X » February 27th 2018, 11:53pm

POSTED BY SEIYA KOBAYASHI · FEBRUARY 23, 2018 "Seiko recently made a surprising announcement. They have stated that they will discontinue series production of the ever-popular SARB017, SARB033, SARB035, and SBDX017 model wristwatches.

Ahh, their sun has finally set! Nothing lasts forever, and businesses have to adapt and change with the times. I guess the same can be said for their products. Current production is to be halted, production is to be discontinued, and they will no longer be available for purchase.

The SARB017 came out in November 2007, and the SARB033 and SARB035 went on sale in June 2008. Those wristwatches have sold extremely well for more than 10 years. Thinking back, the SBDX017 has been sold for more than 15 years before the model change to the SBDX001.

I don’t understand their reasoning for halting production. However, all of them are Seiko wristwatches that launched divers watches, and were all well-loved for their basic simplicity that the Seiko brand is known for. They were all lovely watches. However, since this is Seiko we are talking about, they are bound to make watches that are even more fantastic than before.

Good night, sweet prince(s)."

If true, Limited Editions are right around the corner...

Let’s hope they don’t replace them with a 40mm 4R36 for the same price. These have already taken a jump in price as everyone scrambles to get one.

Yet another reason I should have kept that 035.

If I had the cash, would buy up a few dozen models and resell them slowly over the coming years.

I scrambled to get a 017 yesterday. I've been lusting after one for a long time. I'm glad I saw this post...

Worn & Wound just posted the story, likely followed by more. Say hello to silly prices for these.

Getting rid of the SARBs? Some of them are a little long in the tooth, so I suppose. But the fucking Marinemaster? Insanity.

The SARBs are the Ford Focus of the Seiko line.

On second thought, perhaps discontinuing the MM300 was a wise choice after all. Think of it: those Seiko watchmakers, turning out perfectly finished cases, building the superb 8L movements, and not being able to regulate them. I can just image it--some Seiko master watchmaker, his hat in hand, addressing the appalling salaryman who runs the shop: "Say, bazz, can we just regulate these Marinemasters? Then, when some bloated Yankee fuck buys one for two grand American, he won't break our balls for selling an otherwise perfect dive watch going out of the shop unregulated." And the bazz sez: "Not just no, but fuck no. It's close enough for scuba diving. Some Yankee cocksucker with a distended belly wants it regulated? He can go fuck himself, and buy himself a goddamn Steinhart. Now get back to work with you, Yoshi, you fucking miserable puke, you!"

I had this one put together a few years back. Sumo on one of Harold’s Anvils with Gen MM300 dial and hands. Wish I could of kept it but the crown was fucking torture on the wrist.
