WL Spring Charity Auction 3--Revealed! Auction!

Re: WL Spring Charity Auction 3--Reverse Auction!

While I certainly don't doubt you at your word that the "mystery" watch is well worth more than the asking price, there are watches that are well built and worth every penny of their price that are still not a good fit for everyone.

Although I appreciate such wonders as NOMOS and some of the fine vintage watches here, that are worth large coin, that doesn't mean I could wear them.

Again, not a lack of trust; but, a matter of personal preference.

Maybe just knock off more than 100 bucks a day and get it to a point where someone might take a gamble. At a certain point you can't lose and a sick kid wins no matter what. I'll take a shot at a certain point even if it means i get stuck with a fucking Orient!!!

Somehow "guaranteed return on investment" and "wristwatch" aren't things I would expect to see in the same sentence. It implies a market with greater breadth than the WIS community. The porn queen conjecture would be more likely, or schedule 1 drugs, human organs, that sort of thing.

Is the other thing a Seiko?

I said it was "a guaranteed return on investment", which leaves out any Seiko I've ever heard of.

so it's a rolex? >40mm?

Possibly. Possibly not. Youse gotta ante up if you wanna see my hand!

I for one do not want to see your hand.....

I think it is cool and fun. The anticipation is killing us, like a kid waiting for his birthday or Christmas.
As Foggy said, the money goes to upkeep this forum and to help sick kids, it's a charity. I fail to see a loss there.

OK, on to a regular auction. You can read all about the wartche in the OP; here's the special something I've been teasing:

Image

Image

A one-ounce, 24K gold ingot with a fucking dragon on it. Market price right now is $1,237.67, actual price might be different, depending on where it is sold. This is why I excluded overseas buyers--they probably would have gotten fucked by customs, and I might have broke some goddamn laws shipping the sumbitch.

Well, there you have it. This auction will run until Friday, 10 February, ending at 8:10PM (ten minutes after the other auction) Pacific time. High bid wins. The same rules apply as with the other auctions, 25% being donated (by winner) to the forum, 75% (plus $20 shipping, I'll have to insure the shit out of it) to be sent to St. Jude's Hospital. Upon request of the winner, I'll dump the wartche in the nearest Goodwill collection box or dumpster. There is no reserve, and sale is final.

I don't doubt that there will be snipers for this one, so please refrain from comments/smart-ass remarks/etc. during the last hour of the auction--bids only, please.

So, there you have it. One of you can become a dime-store Glenn Beck, or you can bury it in your back yard, or head to the local bullion dealer.

Have fun!

It appears that you got in just before I posted the reveal, Juan, so yes, I'd have to say that you won this one!

Auction closed, iwasbanned is the winner!

Could someone, please, slowly and in big print letters, preferably translated into German, explain to me, what was going on here? First a wartch in a reverse auction, a concept I never understood in the beginning, to be followed by a 4 minute period where I could have bid on a 1 ounce gold bar, just that Iwasbanned to do so due to my Nationality race and religion (and that in the light of recent events...)?

Juan: Congratulations! Again, I have no clue, but it seemingly took some guts to shout "600" without having the slightest clue what this would be about. :D

Your race / religion / nationality are wunderbar but I found this on shipping bullion internationally - seems like there's a potential for a gummy mess. And last I knew Brinks doesn't do anything on the cheap.

Congrats, Juan. Helluva' purchase.

If only the shysters at that fair hadn't screwed me as a kid. That incident and mistaking raisin oatmeal cookies for chocolate chip are the roots of my trust issues.

Yup, IWB gots Balls. I suspect he clanks when he walks.

And now we know how someone can plausibly claim "guaranteed return on investment" - he's selling friggin' currency. Arguably at least as good as fiat currency.

Of course now that we're all softened up by the results the next reverse auction will probably have a velvet Elvis or a complete set of Mama's Family VHS tapes as the surprise.
