Carpenter watches

I smell some BS about this being an "American brand."

If that means Swiss movements, cased in China in Chinese cases with "Brooklyn, NY" on the Chinese made dial, with the brand being owned by an American, yeah ok.

Sorry, I would rather buy a watch without the hype and markup.

$900 for a mediocre, wanna-be Seiko, Mr Carpenter can go fuck himself.

There is an Orient Bambino model that is quite similar and much less pricey

Well, generally the case is that when a blog reviews something, they have it from somewhere. Sometimes it's the distributor/importer/retailer, sometimes it's the manufacturer. Some will review what they've bought, some will lend a watch from an acquainted owner of said watch. Well, that's all unless we're talking of the T&H channel on YT, where a certain cross-breed of a rodent and a primate tends to ooze verbal spunk about watches he's never even held in his paws.

These Kickstarter micros are more than eager to provide watches for review. Hell, if you have a blog, sometimes they'll even email you, asking if you'd want to review their watch. The larger companies (or at least the ones that don't need Kickstarter anymore) are far more picky about providing watches for review. As for the established brands, they're even more unwilling, unless you're running something way more ambitious than a Bazingesque fapfest site.

Of course, when we're talking of some Carpenter or their ilk, they're usually just looking for the desperate, mediocre, and ready to write a wankfest about their watch, or they resort to Instagram - aaaaarghhhhhh - influencers. Unless one's been running a blog for three months with 5-6 posts published, most of the Earnshaws, Carpenters or some other Kickstarter wonders will be very eager to cooperate, because - basically - they count on getting free publicity. Regrettably, they often do get it. That's because a lot of the bloggers lack the spine to say, "No, I'm not reviewing that pile of shite," or to write a review in which they'll honestly say that a watch sucks cock. Well, maybe not directly "this watch sucks cock", but with that general message precisely.

Some of you'se guys should have been on the forums years ago when we were sniffing out real BS. But it was tougher then since it was the exception rather than the rule to question the validity of certain brands. Back then there was a price to pay for calling out BS (bannings on multiple fora) because we didn't let up. Now it's all bandwagon jumping.
Too easy now that kickstarter and so many idiotic blogs are prevalent.
By todays sleuthing even Timex is suspect. Easy-peasy since they only have a physical presence in the US and virtually all of their of their stuff is outsourced.

Frankly, there still is a price to pay for calling out BS in certain forums, notably WUS. If a crook or a dishonest company has a friend among the mods, or if said crook or dishonest manufacturer becomes a sponsor, exposing the truth becomes impossible. Timezone still has Obergruppenfuhrer Massena, WTF mods rub shoulders with a certain trench watch butcher/engraving forger, as well as an infamous whorologist and his boyfriend Accutronitis, and common sense is a species on the verge of extinction at the NAWCC forum. Same shite, different arseholes, although even the arseholes often stay the same.
