Had never heard of it, I like science fiction more than fantasy. When I saw the first promos, I thought it was a mini series about the War of the Roses. I was actually disappointed when I found out otherwise.Still, I watched it. After the first few episodes, I started to become curious about the books. Several times, I would have one in hand, but in the end would put it back. At the time there were 5 books (7 yrs later there are still five books, and no end in sight). I don't really like endless soap-opera type stories. Eventually I relented, and read them.
Not bad, Martin is an old pro and writes well. Still, as the books go on, he keeps introducing new characters and locations, so after 5 massive books, nothing is even close to resolution.
I like the show. It is well casted, well acted, and they spend money on cool locations. Still, when they began to move beyond the books, and Martin's scenes and dialogue, it began to suffer. The Dorne plot became ridiculous. People and even whole armies seem to teleport to where the plot needs them. Continuity problems.

Still, I'm in. It's a great show, quibbles aside. Cool sword fights, dragons, magic, pretty girls, hot guys...something for everyone.

I watched for awhile but the grossness got to me, all the people burned at the stake and so on. It must have really smelled bad back then.

i just watch the first 3 episodes of Season 1. Decent show. Aquaman, the chic from 300, the midget from nip/tuck , and the guy from lord of the rings are on it. Can't be that bad.

I think by now everyone knows not to get attached to a character played by Sean Bean.

boring and too predictable anymore. From one crisis to another, one fiction to another. They should have stopped at the end of the book series.

That's the problem. Book series isn't finished. Author has at least 2 more in the pipeline. The fact that he hasn't even finished the book that dealt with last season's plot forced the TV guys to wing it - as they continue to do with this season. Although Martin has certainly been intimately involved with the televidium series plots, it remains to be seen whether the books will bear out the television plot line or whether they will finish very differently.

A popular rumor going around has it that the Night King freezes the seas surrounding the Wall..this would allow his army of Wights to simply skirt the Wall on their way to the 7 Kingdoms..hmm, an updated take on the Maginot Line perhaps?..

The leaks I've seen, which have been remarkably accurate, have the Wall falling with the Night King riding a re-animated dragon.
