Get an Original E-Type, Directly from Jaguar

Postby Racer-X » April 3rd 2017, 11:06pm

by Bryan Campbell "When Jaguar Land Rover announced its Reborn program, the prospect of having factory-fresh classic Range Rovers and Defenders back on the road made mouths water. So it was only a matter of time before the most iconic Jaguar of all time got the highly specialized restoration treatment.

Jaguar just announced it will officially present the first Reborn E-Type at the Techno-Classica Essen show in April. As with the Reborn Range Rover, only 10 E-Types will be sourced and expertly restored to the exact specifications from when they first left the factory."

That's one fine automobile, but a concours level E-Type is worth $160,000. The remake is $355,000 and up. That's more than double. But if you've got money to burn, go for it.

I loved my E-type. Although it was a series II it was still cool when I was 18. Love to have it back. My XK8 is nice and a much better car... but no XKE.

Great to see them being kept on the road, no matter the price. I saw a documentary on a similar Porsche program: you had to supply the original car, but it was a full Resto from the factory. They still have a lot of original parts, but anything else, they manufacture custom. It was showing how for some of the super-rare cars, they would consult with retired line workers to learn exactly how certain parts looked and worked. Not cheap either, I'd imagine, but I'm glad they continue to live on, even if I'll never have a chance to own one.
