China's Fake Watch Industry

I also believe other countries including Eastern Europe produce a lot of fakes as well.

I keep hearing "India" in that context as well.

Speaking of India I believe there are vintage watches on ebay that say made of assembled in India?

Hard to tell the quality on most of those with the poor lighting and shaky video. Likely that most of us here would be able to see the flaws if we had the chance to handle them or see close up, higher quality stills.

That made me want to smack myself in the forehead. Some of those guys just can't get it that actually owning and wearing fakes is the core of the problem and that it is illegal. The whole "I will wear what I want because it's mine and I bought it...no one can tell me I can't" crap is just plain stupid.

The thread is indeed one of these, which give me the laughs. Mr.H, his course, and the fact that the NAWCC keeps sweeping his fails under the carpet (including issues of plagiarism)- all of that combined makes me - and that's putting it mildly- most reluctant to join the NAWCC. I won't have a penny of my money make its way into their pockets, as long as he's there. I've seen too much of his "skills" in the forums not to know that the "course" likely delivers nothing of value. As long as the association keeps selling that (on top of that, for north of a grand), the people who gave that a green light won't have my respect.

That is the problem BL, wearing and owning a fake watch isn't illegal.
It's illegal to import them though, which is what Mr. H. was doing, even though he was doing it to "teach" in his "seminar". He also did not declare his fake watches.

As MK says, (in so many words) the guy is a charlatan.

WTF?!?

First I'm hearing of this goof, but I guarantee it's the last time, too. Unreal.

But the thread was interesting reading, and it is not like if he was not challenged on his position and competence. Funny however how one guy practically begged him for the "word" to close it...

I can understand how a Forum including ours would put a stop on "promoting" fakes in any way (as I recently experienced - fair enough). But a discussion like on nawcc must still be allowed.

Try the WUS "Fake Buster" threads, he (as HOROLOGIST007) gets regularly ticked off by the members for getting it wrong and giving poor advice.
His record is at around fifty/fifty now, so...

Instead of busting fakes, Fake Busters is about busting fake fake busters.

Had to have a look at the law. Guess the last time I even thought of doing so was way back in my 20s.

I remembered incorrectly. I could have sworn there was a penalty for possession of counterfeit goods; along the lines of stolen property possession.

Unless the law changed, my memory is shit, it appears. I blame the weed, the whiskey and the women. Mostly the weed though

All three can be bad for you (so I hear... ;) ).

If you read Mr. H's link in his first post, he managed to order dozens of replacements straight away, thus making sure the fake watch industry keeps going a while longer any way. Perhaps a call from customs is in order again...

Anybody who wears a fake watch is a real fucking asshole.

If I see a guy who's wearing a $20 Timex, I can respect that. He is, after all, wearing a real watch, like a fucking adult, and not staring at his cell phone for the time or asking somebody else. He's got his head and his ass wired together. If, on the other hand, I see some jamoke wearing an obvious fake, or almost as bad, an Invicter Mighty Hydromax, I figure the guy's probably a fucking asshole, and 99% of the time I'm right.

Fake watch owners are the NAMBLA of the hobby.
