Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moon Phase And Retrograde Date

Postby Racer-X » June 19th 2017, 4:26pm

by Jack Forster "One of the things that you learn again and again in reviewing, and looking at, and writing about watches is the importance of withholding judgement until you've actually seen a watch in the metal – and moreover, had a chance to wear it and see what it's like to operate it. This was definitely the case for me with the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Moonphase And Retrograde Date, which seemed an almost simplistic watch at first but which has a lot of small details that taken together make it a very enjoyable watch to discover and also, show how Vacheron's approach to watchmaking differs from that of its contemporaries and competitors."

I usually like VCs, but not that one.

My thoughts exactly...

I don't like that date display. The moonphase is OK, but it'd be better off integrated into a subdial- the aperture just floating in the middle of nowhere looks a wee bit odd.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

You two above don't like it, but that leaves one more for me .... in my friggin' dreams, at least.

I love these guys and I think this is a cool watch. The retro-date at the top of the dial works for me, encompassing the rest of the dial under the arch, a structural looking kinda deal I guess. The moon phase works for me also, too, balanced on the 6 o'clock indicie like a fulcrum and anchored by 5 and 7, it's well framed, or maybe contained is a better way to say it, without a subdial, the simple baton hands. It all seriously works for me.

Shut-up already, I sold me, Godammit. I'll take it!

The VC Patrimony line has been my favorite for a while now, this one included.

I'd take a VC Contemporaine over any Patek.

30 meters water resistant. So it's a fair weather watch.
