Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon: (And An Unbelievable Price)

Postby Racer-X » May 30th 2017, 4:15pm

by Elizabeth Doerr "Ulysse Nardin’s Marine collection, now 21 years old, pays tribute to the traditional marine chronometers the brand earned its fame with (see Celebrating 20 Years Of Ulysse Nardin’s Marine Line).

The watches in this line are generally created with typical Ulysse Nardin design in mind, including a fluted case and marine chronometer dial styling, both strong design elements of the Marine collection.

The inclusion of a power reserve display – usually placed at 12 o’clock on the dial – harks back to the classic marine chronometer. It is an attribute that has characterized Ulysse Nardin’s Marine timepieces since the 1996 introduction of the Marine Chronometer 1846, the watch that launched the Marine collection."

Nice, but would be much better off with different hands. First and foremost, if the dial is not lumed, the hands should be without lume. Lumed dial and lumed hands, or no lume at all. Second, they indeed look like they come from two different sets.

Outstanding - and a genuine bargain, but then I'm a sucker for marine chronometers. Puttin' it on my list - toward the top. In fact I may start making some calls....
In the space of one hour is Babylon the Great thrown down. Not a stone remained standing upon another and the reek of her burning did poison all the earth and the smoke thereof did blot out the sun so that noon-day did appear as midnight. Alas Babylon!

That's purdy. But they should have put the word "Tourbillon" in 56pt. sans serif on the dial. That way, when you're wearing it down at the Dogg 'N' Suds and eating pickled eggs with your bros, they'd know that you spent some Benjamins.

Lowest priced tourbillon since Tag's $15,000 dud last year (unless you count Magen and Liang's Hangzhou follies). The COSC cert is an eye-opener; gotta admire the total package on this one.
