Qionghua day-dates...

Qionghua day-dates...

Postby AlbertaTime » February 26th 2017, 11:27am

Yet another of the little mysteries that keep me entertained has popped up while looking at these two (likely early 1980s?) Qionghua 琼花 brand pieces.

Some context: Yangzhou Watch Factory 扬州手表厂, Qionghua's builder, was a small factory in Jiangsu province (somewhat near Shanghai) that mainly put out economy three handers running very simplified--cheaper--Tongji movements.

But they also managed to build functioning day-date models off that basic platform, and that's kinda impressive :-)

My mystery is the characters on the yellow dialed piece: 三山夹工程纪念 or (as best I could translate) "Three Mountains Engineering Commemorative," making this a limited piece.

I have no idea what the watch is commemorating and I'd love to know more. A big part of my motive for collecting is to discover the human beings behind the watches, and *their* stories. So, if anyone has a clue...

No clue here, you are our leading light on Chinese watches and such a welcome break from the European industry. Methinks a documentary should be devoted to your museum and its curator.

For economy watches, they sure look nice.

That's a very generous thought, thank you.

I agree. Nothing miraculous, but respectable.
