Who made my Sewills Carmania? (assuming it actually arrives)

Postby Falstaff » May 5th 2017, 11:42am

Waiting for delivery of this Sewills "Carmania" marine chronometer from the 'bay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sewills-Carmani ... true&rt=nc This model was introduced in 1999 to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the victorious 1914 battle of the converted British ocean liner Carmania against the similarly converted German merchant cruiser Cap Trafalgar. Sewills had not actually manufactured watches for quite some time before this and had contracted their watch assembly to a German firm. I understand Sewills closed shop for good in 2001 and Timefactors bought the rights to the brand in 2010 - at the same time acquiring some un-assembled examples of the Carmania model as well as its sister Ark Royal marine chrono from this same German watch firm. Timefactors subsequently assembled these pieces (or had them assembled) and offered them for sale on their website. Apparently some of the Ark Royal model are still available. I believe this is one of the original 1999 production pieces. Any of you vintage collectors or Brit specialists have any idea who that German manufacturer might be? Can't find much on the net.

That's about all I found as well. No clue as to the German maker, though. I'll try some Doxa digging if you think it's worthwhile.
