Sad day for me- Navy COD goes in

Postby codguy » November 23rd 2017, 8:59am

The Navy lost a COD aircraft yesterday, with three members still missing.

I have well over 1000 flight hours in that platform.
Though the majority of my flight time was in the C-130, the C2A(R) was near and dear to me and is evident with my forum name and current avatar.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to the crew and passengers on this flight from VRC-30 Det-5.

As a civilian who knows a lot of vets, it always amazes me that so many other civilians are woefully ignorant of how dangerous active service really is; I suppose one could look at it as a testament to how professional and capable our military is.

Thanks for your service, Cod. Have a fine Thanksgiving.

When hearing of the plane's mishap, I immediately thought of you codguy and your connection to this plane. Thanks for serving Cod.

Unfortunately I know the feeling. Twenty one years ago yesterday my wing lost a C130, also at sea, and also with eleven aboard. Only one survived. This holiday is a time to be mindful of those who have been taken from our midst.

Nothing I type in can make a shred of difference, but my heart goes out to all of our Navy, from my dad to these brave people.

Sure there is alot of hurt going on within the community and obviously family members.

For me, I'm not hurt, simply very sad. Spent my 1st, 3rd, 4th & 6th tours with that platform (with the last having me develop/run a brand new flightcrew school). The C2A is a very reliable aircraft, particularly for what it had to do for a living, the last at-sea ditching was back in the 70's Nam era.

I truly feel for the Family members and Shipmates associated with this flight.

Thanks for allowing me to share this.

Cod, I have the greatest respect for your service. Our veterans here are folks I hold in high esteem.

Sadly I was not allowed into the military due to the fractured hip from age 9 and I will always be amazed at the brotherhood veterans share.

I was raised on used US medivacs that were refinished and put to work on the north and south borders of Israel. I have rarely fully embraced the politics of either country but the presence of air deterrence has been a great peace keeper in bumpy times. I salute all American air service men whatever capacity they fill. The saddest day of my life was watching my best friend being evacuated from the Golan with no vitals.

You bet, as well as everyone here who has served, in the military, National Guard, or police, or fire departments. The utmost respect and gratitude. As I get older, my admiration only grows deeper.

Man Cod, I immediately thought of you when I heard. It’s a sad day when we lose good men and women in the military. To all are service members thank you.
