Tom Petty RIP

Postby koimaster » October 2nd 2017, 3:34pm

Tom Petty, the dynamic and iconoclastic frontman who led the band the Heartbreakers, went into full cardiac arrest at his Malibu home Sunday night, with conflicting reports on whether the Hall of Fame musician died on Monday. Petty was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest at his home, according to TMZ, and rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. EMTs were able to find a pulse when they found him, but TMZ reported that the hospital found no brain activity when he arrived. A decision was made to pull life support. CBS originally confirmed Petty's death per the Los Angeles Police Department, but TMZ claims the musician is still on life support.

CBS News, as well as almost all of the other major news carriers are now reporting that Tom Petty has been taken off like support due to a flat-line reading of brain activity.

Was an early fan of Tom at various college bars in the Gainesville area in the 70s when I was at U of F. Shared a few beers with him as well. The thinking man's Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I really found it pretty freakin' terrible that CBS and whatever police department was involved "confirmed" he was dead before the was dead. There's no fucking excuse. That's the problem with news these days - someone read "taken off life support" wrong and it got spread like wildfire. No excuse!

Wasn't a fan, but I never heard anyone say a bad word about Petty - I mean, look at all the people he jammed with. I did see him and The Heartbreakers perform live. Petty had just produced the new album by Chris Hillman, who was in The Byrds and Stephen Stills' Manassas.

He will be missed. Funny how the world works, his passing won't get the attention it merits because of a nutbag in Vegas.
