Timex Waterbury: Fake it 'Til You Make It

99% of us have been there. Out and about with the 1%, and you want to look the part for a day. You can't don the Old School Tie, but you can wear a watch that whispers old money inheritance like Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love; at least at a glance.

The Timex Waterbury is a decent watch. Surprisingly decent considering the crazy, stupid low prices. The highlights are the smooth, curvy, oyster style case, and Indiglo, which is beautifully cool. The worst aspect is the leather strap so thin and dry it could be mistaken for rubberised paper. The colour and cut of the hands is also rather jarring. The overall impression, however, is classy and understated enough that the Waterbury won't let you down when paired with the right suit and shoes.

The Waterbury line is nothing but respectable. Proof positive that good watches can be had at a very reasonable price without having to look like a jaundiced hockey puck on steroids wrapped in barbed wire.

Kudos Underscore.

Nice work there Recliner. I fancy that fleur-de-lis tie. You should send it state side post haste.

Jason, wow man. A few words, coupla good pics, and a story is told as well as it could be.

No caste system here. That watch just looks good. I mean, who gives a flying flop what it costs? T'ain't the watch, its the wearer.

In your dreams lumberjack. That's one of my lucky ties. And as a broke(n) single man in the torrid depths of a premature mid-life crisis I need all the luck I can get.

If you outlast me (and the boy doesn't want it) I'll leave it to you in my will.

ps - I'll send the tea set your way, too. It's exquisitely fine and delicate.

Thanks BL! There is probably something to be said for designing a watch to look like a watch.

Thanks TB! I certainly don't give a flying flop what it cost, as thanks to the kindness of our own Mr Neddles it cost me precisely nothing more than some good karma (to be detailed in another post).
