Obris Morgan Explorer

Postby biglove » October 29th 2013, 4:59am

Received my first Obris Morgan watch this past week and just wanted to pass along my impressions.

Model: Explorer D.013.01.A, aka Explorer
Version: Blue face/Blue bezel/Brushed stainless

Was excited to be able to catch this one before it sold out and debated for some time on the options of finish and color.

Came in an Invictaesque orange box with the label not quite centered in its place. Nice touch is the addition of a micro screwdriver for change of screw bar (does not fit link screws) and a really nice silicone strap. Noted one screw bar a bit loose and tightened it up. May need to place a dab of Locktite on the screw bars as have read of them not wanting to stay tight. Will likely do this as a precaution.

Bracelet links are easy enough to remove and the screws are quite secure and the bracelet quality is excellent, IMHO. The bracelet may well be the best part of the watch!
Love the way it fits my 7 1/2" wrist. The Miyota movement is SMOOTH and has not lost/gained any appreciable time over the first week of wear.
The screw down crown is tool size large and easy to operate with no grinding. Odd thing is that when fully screwed in there is a gap between the crown and the case. I have no doubt that it is water resistant but wondering if this is intentional?

Bezel moves easily and I do note a bit of wiggle at times in both directions but none noted when at 12 o'clock mark. Note that the "30" mark on the bezel is what I consider upside down but it is growing on me.

Only real detractors that I can see are the fact that the face is not as deep a blue as appeared on the website and, to my eyes, is actually a lighter blue than the bezel. Wondering if that might be due to type of AR coating on the sapphire crystal? And the lume...well, I am not so sure about that "SuperLuminova" claim. Yeah, it will shine with the lights off IF you torch it with a flashlight. The lume can be seen in a completely dark room without doing so but it is a struggle. Lume is sub-par vs my Orient Ray's and Seiko OM.

Overall I am extremely pleased by this watch, especially at this price! The fit and design overcome the shortcomings noted, for me at least.

WILL be buying more from them in the future and recommend this watch.

Nice review!!

I picked up the same one with Black Bezel and Dial, and it is a great watch for the price.

Good review! I'm not a gigantic fan of the micros, but this one seems to be a good value for the dough-ray-me.

Cool to see a micro pricing their product for what it is with some nice touches to book like the construction of the bracelet, and sapphire. It gets old seeing watches like this priced at $500 + Nice review.

Looks good, nice write up, they provide a really nice bracelet on their watches

I have one Obris Morgan, the Nevon model with a Miyota 8215. For some reason I don't wear it much and my oldest keeps dropping hints
Purchased mine from LIW and noticed the other day he doesn't carry them anymore

The Nevon is sold out. Was the first Obris Morgan I ever wanted but they were all gone by the time I discovered the brand!

It is my understanding that the designer is either from or was schooled in Australia and the company is out of Hong Kong. If I remember correctly they have been producing watches since the late '90s.
