My one month review of my Timex T42351 Chronograph

Postby abduksion » June 7th 2013, 11:39am

Back in April I was looking for a new watch so I, went on Amazon.com and started searching watches. My first thought was to get another Diver, but I said screw that I want something different so I went on WL asking if their was any watches that uses a similar movement to ETA 251.272? I have no idea what movement Timex uses they don't say. All I know is its assembled in the Philippines. Which lead me to a Timex model #T42351. I'm not a big Timex fan at all, I usually see them in department stores, and always push them away. I now force myself to check them out which I should of done years ago. Now the review I'll post the good, & the bad. I suck at writing reviews if I worked for Hallmark I wouldn't last a two days since I, can never get the right words out. Image (Gonna be using older pics)

Case
40mm thickness 12mm? not to sure

Strap size 20mm also wr.

Black IP plated case with a white Tachymeter scale done on white numerals.

Black dial with sliver tone hands, and chronograph sub-dials,

Luminous hands and hr markers

Date

100m wr

Alarm

Night Mode feature (Press and hold the Crown in for a few seconds, the dial will light up green. This feature will turn the indiglo backlight on when you press the chronograph pushers) Timex says it will shutoff after 8 hours of non use. This feature is cool but useless in my opinion.

Now the good

Case is a good classic size at 40mm mentioned above, so anyone can wear it men, women, children etc.

Alarm works very well and is loud enough to wake you up & remind you if you need to take medication etc.

Strap is comfortable and has a really cool stitching motif which I have yet to see on other watches?

Uses Timex's famous indiglo which is cool but at the same time, I wish Timex used a higher lume compound on the watches hands & HR markers. But if they did the Indiglo would be useless.

The watch uses a quick set time/date feature. This is the mean reason why I bought the watch Image To set the time pull the crown to the first position & turn it either clockwise or anti-clockwise this is how you set the date. Go past 12am changes go back to 8pm the date goes to the previous days date. (Really handy feature if you travel and for DLS) Only problem is if your one of those people who like me, leave the crown out to save battery life you have to sit there and turn the hr hand until the correct date shows up.

The chronograph is your normal chronograph start/stop/split/reset.

The pusher at the 2 o'clock starts and stops while the pusher at the 8 o'clock resets or if you choose to split time a race etc.

The crown at the 4 o'clock sets the alarm. Pull it out to the first position and the indiglo light will beep one time pull it out to the second click and it will beep three times. I've only used the alarm a couple time. To set the alarm the crown as to be pushed in move it in either direction the the red small triangle sets the alarm minutes while the grayish triangle sets the hours. I wanna say the first pull sets the alarm off for 20 seconds. while the second pull sets the alarm for a minute? I don't remember sorry.

Now the bad
To be honest there's really not that much bad things to say really. My only concern is the black Ip plated case this is only my second watch with this feature the other being a Citizen Eco Drive which the Ip plating didn't last to long.

And my second and last complaint is Timex should of included a nato or zulu strap to give it a military inspired look and feel.

The MSRP is $100.00 (US) but looks and feels more expensive, if this watch had a Swiss band name on it like Tissot it would easily be a $500 watch. I have no idea how Timex decided to put a $100 price?

Well there you have it my written review on the Timex T42351

I like the watch and the review. If you had said more about your ropey dangly bits I would have been fooled into thinking you were a ghost writer for conjurer!

I agree I wish brands like Casio would do automatics especially in their dive watches.

Nice, this is good to hear. I have a Timex inbound right now and it is good to read this positive review. The reviews overall that I read for all Timex watches are good. I will post some pics and a review of my new one once I get it, and have time. Thank you for posting your thoughts.

Sorry for the late entry, Ab-D!, but I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your review; for a guy who thinks he sucks at review writing, you turned in a superb product. Keep 'em coming!

I too have never seen that stitching pattern on a strap outside of Timex, but I like the way it looks.  As a collector who is uber-picky about his bracelets and straps, I'd keep that'n just as it is.

Again, Ab-D!, great job! Image

Thanks Mortuus I was thinking of buying a matching black IP bracelet with screwed links I saw on thewatchprience? But cost just as much as the watch itself.
