Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921

by Su Jia Xian (SJX) "With its angled dial and squarish case, the American 1921 is arguably the most visually distinctive watch made by Vacheron Constantin. Originally introduced in pink and then yellow gold, the 1921 arrived in platinum last year – certainly the best looking amongst them.

Part of the Historiques line – the same range that gave us the Cornes de Vache chronograph – of vintage remakes, the 1921 is a twist on a classic look – Breguet numerals and hands – that’s modelled on several driver’s watches Vacheron Constantin produced in the 1920s for the American market. Positioned 45 degrees from the vertical, the dial is meant to be read with hands on a steering wheel."

VC has stood by its priciness vs IWC, JLC, Piaget and others who are making more accessible less expensive watches. I know that out there in Reality you will not see many modern pieces in platinum but once you try on a platinum watch the heavy solid feel of the watch makes it hard to settle for other metals. Thank goodness there's more to life than watches - right?

They should have named this one Corneholes de Vache.

Would be better, if they'd have kept the layout from the original. So, it's like a faux-Lepine configuration, with the seconds subdial positioned like in a Lepine converted to a hunter layout, with the 60 second marker not on the same axis as 12 o'clock... What the fuck?!

The original thing was a Lepine ladies' PW movement in a wrist case. VC weren't the only ones to do that, American manufacturers also did. Zenith also had some stashes of ladies' PW movements repurposed (rather strange, but collectible models with crown at 12, but a fairly normal, c. 32-34mm wrist case in Staybrite steel or chrome-plated nickel).

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
