This book was published in 1773, just three years before the author, James Ferguson FRS, died.

This amazing gent was a self-taught astronomer, clock and instrument maker, and an eminent mathematician. The short auto-biography at the end of the book is an extremely interesting insight on the man's life, including how as a quite young man he made a working watch from wood with a whalebone spring!
Truly a great man.
