The prices that sellers ask for DON bezels are absolutely idiotic these days.

This isn't "patina." This isn't what patina looks like. This is fucking knackered, and yes, indeed no major chips... Mostly because the damaged edge starting at the 70 units marker is one colossal fucking chip - "major chip" would be a rather terribly euphemistic way to put it.

Just South of a grand- nowhere near enough.

For those so afflicted, a good guide to vintage Speedmaster bezels:

And here's a more detailed guide to everything Speedmaster:
http://speedmaster101.com/

The guides in FW's Speedy Tuesday series are OK, but they mostly just scratch the surface of the topic. They don't mention the telemeter and pulsometer bezels, and someone really happened to forget the BASE 1000 bezel used on the 2915-3 and the early 2998s. Well, they are very useful, but after they failed me with a few authentications, I started to double check them.

As to double checking, I feel like I'm about to have fun with roasting blog articles - out of curiosity, I've clicked on one of the links in the article about bezel identification, to the one where they discussed the Speedmaster "A.C.P." (Automovil Club Peruano), and this one's absolutely chock full of bullshit. My OCD won't let it slide, I absolutely have to warn against reading the article about the Speedmaster A.C.P.

We’ve seen Speedmaster ACP models from 1963 (based on the 20,5xxxxxx serial number) while the wording PROFESSIONAL on the dial wasn’t used before 1966.

Where the fuck did they get that from? Yes, it was used earlier, as it bloody was on every asymmetric case Speedy from 1963 on. The last Speedmaster without the Pro text, the straight lug 105.003, was discontinued in 1965, so the year 1966 appears to be of no significance here. All 105.003 dials were without the Pro text, but why the fuck would that have anything to do with the 105.012?

We happen to believe that the ACP watches were produced on request of the Automovil Club Peruano after 1965, using a batch of older movements. However, it is just a guess. It also might indicate that the dial was done later on, but this is very unlikely, taking the quality of the print into consideration. Another possibility is that the dials with Speedmaster Professional printing were delivered earlier than we have thought so far.

What a crock of shit - they're building an ideology around not having done the necessary reading. Of course the Pro dials were around earlier than 1966 (three years earlier, to be precise), which is obvious to everyone familiar with the ref. 105.012...

A little detail that might back up this assumption (of earlier Professional dials) is that these ACP dials do not have the T’s besides ‘Swiss Made’ on the dial to indicate the use of tritium.

Of course they don't bloody have the T markings, as the 105.012-63 shouldn't have them!

Anyway, watches like these are very rare and because of that, there might be some details to research.

Ummm, no. The 105.012-63 isn't very rare. The -64 is. The A.C.P. text on the dial has really no effect on the basic specs of the reference, which are all too easy to find.

I agree! Best brand-related site I've seen since Calibre 11. Thanks for that.
