Hamilton Jazzmaster

Hamilton Jazzmaster

Postby Mark1 » December 1st 2017, 2:55pm

Got this one in the other day. I had been looking at a day date model for a while having seen and liked the Tudor Glamour that artman picked up a while back. One in silver dial popped up on WatchRecon a couple weeks ago. Wanting to add another blue dial to the collection I found this one offered pretty cheap in one of Jomashops pre-holiday sales. It is a Hamilton Jazzmaster automatic day-date. Right sized at 40mm with Hamilton H40 movement. Basically, a 2836-2 slowed from 28.8 to 21.6, this gives the movement an 80 hour power reserve. Looking at it I can't really tell any difference in the second hand sweep at the lower speed.
It's hard to get a good shot of the blue dial with the natural light as it is here currently. Might be able to do better in say July. So anyway here's a few pics.

Here's a picture of some elk shit in my yard. Gotta watch where you're walking around here.

That's a nice one, Mark! Very classy. I think you should put out some landmines to blow up those fucking elks.

Outstanding pick-up, Mark! I love that 'Hammy Blue,' as it truly is an iconic shade in the world of horology, and I think you did a truly excellent job of picking it up through the lens and machinery of your camera -- not an easy thing to do, as I well know from my own experience with "Demon Camera." So stop being so hard on yourself! ;)

As to the elk poop...well, let's just say that it's gonna be a long, long time before I order another black bean burrito over at El Torito... (oy-VEY, dude... :| )

Nice watch, I like the blue.

Yeah, I really like that one Mark. It's been on my list along with a Thin-o-matic or Mido Baroncelli for longer than necessary.

Ahh, Jazzmasters - nothing not to like there. Nice going, Mark. That's definitely one I would wear without hesitation; the blue really pops.

Nice purchase Mark. Hamilton makes very good quality watches and charges far less for them then the other players in the marketplace. I give it two thumbs up!

Thanks all. Forgot to mention this watch uses the dreaded pin and collar system on the bracelet-lost one collar in sizing it.

It's a damned conspiracy. Used to be predominantly Seiko who used this accursed system. Now it seems like everybody does.

I'm not too sure about that elk shit (it is a pre-Christmas limited-reserve Hodinkee special?) but I like that Hamilton. At $525 per Jomashop I'd also be tempted, but at $1,300 list price in the UK I'll just have to rob a bank!
