Certina DS-2 Precidrive Chrono YELLOW

Certina DS-2 Precidrive Chrono YELLOW

Postby biglove » September 21st 2017, 4:11pm

Ok, this may be damned geeky; but, I am truly torn. Have never faced a situation where a month of shopping, looking at videos and photos online has gotten me no closer to a decision.

Looking at the Certina DS-2 Precidrive Chronograph, on bracelet of course.

Have ruled out the LE edition at double the cost. Now I have to choose which I want. Not going for both as don’t need two.

Have never been this torn between two. Don’t know what else to do except seek the opinion and thoughts of those who matter most to me in this hobby. I apologize if such a post offends sensibilities.

Love the green version as, to me, it seems a bit fun and more modern.

Love the yellow as it comes across, at least to me, with a more vintage look and more subdued.

Opinions really are appreciated.

For me it comes down to how it fits as part of the rest of my collection. I would tend to pick the green because it would be a more unique addition to what I already own. It think that might be true of most peoples' watch collections. The yellow is a bit more traditional.

I'd go with the yellow.

May be geeky?!

Only your thoughts for your watch matter, as we won't be wearing it. Better be glad Aqua Homer isn't around here anymore. Oh hell...try to recall which one caught your eye first and buy that one.

I'd go with the yellow; the way it's more muted (a bit) than the green would make the watch more versatile.

Yellow all the way, not even close.
I'm not a huge fan of green. It takes a special watch to pull green off and this ain't it.

Because of this thread, I read up a little on the Percidrive movement; thermocompensated quartz, accurate to 10 seconds a year. That's pretty fucking impressive for any sole-lass Quarts GODAM it.

I like the yellow better. The green looks too minty.

Would have been yellow for me too. So good choice :). But Seiko makes a hundred and one all-purpose quartz chronos that look the same and cost a half or even a third of these, and you'll likely not notice the difference in accuracy. How much was it (actual, not retail which is mental over here)?

If you like yellow (I'll go for yellow too)...I will highly recommend you cancel that Certina purchase and get the Hublot King Power, they make a Ref. 692 that is absolutely awesome! and folks will swear you are playing for the NBA (even if you are grossly out of shape) ;)

Have looked at hundreds of Seiko chronos in this price range, Pubble and have yet to find one that rustled my jimmies. $485 from Joma.

There is no watch made, Eddie, no matter how tasteless that could ever do that.

Seiko makes a thermo-compensated quartz chrono for under $500? Not that I know of

Not thermocomp'd admittedly, but mine (at least) was extremely accurate, certainly I never actually had to reset the time because the seconds were sufficiently far out to notice (I habit I had got into as a result of owning a series of shit automatics). I dunno - 1-2 sec/month?

tbf I don't know if these are still available. Seiko doesn't seem to make the same watch for more than about 12 months.

Thanks for the wise words, all.

The yellow is incredible in person. Hell, the whole watch is.

Way better than the catalog and internet photos.
