Re-creating the past

Re-creating the past

Postby foghorn » August 2nd 2017, 11:48am

Backstory:
A few years ago I paid a handsome (fair nevertheless) price for a near mint condition Spaceview on an equally well preserved (dare I say NOS) period Novavit SA bracelet because it was the same model my father had back in the early 70''s. (We called it Dads giant watch-which it was back then at 38mm and a cushion case.)

A few weeks ago nostalgia struck again and I got a NOS Accutron Quartz with all the trimmings. A watch that I never could have afforded in 1977. 160 bucks was like a half pound of weed.

Recently I've been looking for a suitable replacement for the first "real" watch I ever bought. A Zodiac Sea Wolf purchased at the Dedham Mass. Mall in 1975 for the on sale price of 100 dollars. Still runs but looks like crap after a 20 year stint as a daily wearer and a 1 year period when it was AWOL. Eventually discovered lodged between a mattress and a box spring.

A recent post about the reissue Zodiac Sea Wolf piqued my interest but the particular version didn't float my boat-even at a great price.

I just got this version which makes me feel 22 again.
Zodiac did everything right so far as this old fowl is concerned. 40mm is a perfect size and the STP movement is spot on after 24 hours. My other STP also runs well within spec. (another zodie) The sapphire crystal is slightly domed and the bezel is covered by mineral glass. The green is a bitch to photograph and at times looks almost black. I don't know about the lume yet.

My only question is why the hell it shipped in a box big enough for a microwave.

At least it is green, a fine color for a fowl person.

Nice lookin' Foggy. Looked for a bit like Fossil was going to screw them up, cool to see Zodiac bringing out nice watches like this again. Looks like the STP's are holding up also to Fossil's credit.

I'm not big on green, but I like that one. Like the glass covered bezel also, too.

Yep, that's pretty cool, indeed. Looks like Zodiac's back, Jack.

How did this happen? This is the backstory we want, and we want it goddamn fast, you savvy?

Seriously, though, a very cool wartche. My penis is starting to engorge just looking at the damned thing.

That's a great watch Foghorn, one of the better re-issues IMHO.
Here is a 1973 advert for the range of divers watches.
