Just In: Laco Leipzig Erbstück

Just In: Laco Leipzig Erbstück

Pilot watches have always fascinated me but seem to wind up trade fodder. I used to have a GO b-Uhr but that's back when monster truck watchas were really becoming a craze. I don't think I could handle 45mm nowadays. So I started looking for something classic but slightly smaller. I looked at Stowa, Archimede, Steinhart. Stowas are beautiful, minimalist and are made in sizes all the way down to 35mm.

I posted some pics on WL forum in search of feedback and eddiea brought up the Laco Erbstück line. These watches are new but made to look well worn using aged Superluminova C3, bead blasted cases. The incredibly soft leather strap is also aged though I think can get even more aging when I turn it over to my leather guru.

First impressions, the watch sits in its own niche in limbo between old and new. The case diameter is 42mm x 13mm thick. It fits like a glove with the short lugs, blued hands and large but manageable case. The movement is an ETA hand winder, the case back is bead-blasted in a very dark and varied coloration. The watch wears super comfortable and my only concern is that the strap may be too warm for summer wear. Here's the q&d photos.

The plastic is a bit distracting. For a second I thought the "aging" included a dial with chipping paint.

I think that the overhead lighting is what looks like plastic bubbles on the dial.

You make a good point about the strap; you'd hate to sweat that thing out.

That is a nice looking pilot watch, very nice looking.
They did a good job with the vintage look.

Looking at the Erbstuck line, I'm not sure if the extent of the faux-aging to the case isn't a bit of an overkill, but here it looks nice. As to the dial fading and "the aged radium" look to the lume, that might be just the best example I've ever seen.

That said, it's quite a stunning watch you've got, tiktok.

That's one of the nicest pilot watches I've ever seen tik.

I like the short lugs and the aging leaves a very cool rugged impression of it's military heritage and a lot of air miles under its belt. Perfect choice.

Thanks all, I was skeptical about build quality after playing with Archimede, Vollmer, Arctos, but the build is much better. eddiea, I remember Mike Stuffler running the German forum at WUS when I was in high school ;)
