The History of the NATO Strap

Postby TemerityB » August 7th 2017, 12:03pm

While I despise NATO straps more than "Here's Lucy," I found this article interesting.

Whether or not you know exactly what a NATO strap is, you’ve definitely seen one. A trend item that has aggressively taken hold of the watch industry, NATOs can be found on just about any watch, from $35 Timex Weekenders to $7,000 Rolex Submariners to $50,000 Patek Philippes. Some watch enthusiasts may scoff at the idea of putting a $15 strap on an expensive timepiece, but NATOs are a fun, functional and quickly interchangeable way to show off your watch. While the straps have become fairly ubiquitous, their origin can be traced back to a single point in history.

Good read

Not a fan but that's an interesting article; I never knew very much about the actual origin and military background--- I'll have to give one a try one of these days.

I'm not a fan of NATO straps, but I liked the article.

Ron Sabo, owner of international watchman owns the trademark to NATO watch straps. How he got that through the courts is anyone's guess, but he likes to sue small company's now for using his trademark.

I personally love NATOs but only solid colors and not too thick.

WUS (especially the watch straps sub-forum) is full of posts by those, whose listings got removed from eBay due to a complaint filed by that crook and kiddie fucker.

If there is a Hell, may that wanker land up in there, and get fucked in the arse by the devil himself, forever and a day longer.
