Sandstone - How much did they save using a Polymer

Postby Horse Feathers » December 23rd 2010, 8:39am

For our WG visitors

I happened to find a site that sells " 100% made in the USA" Sandstone coasters (maybe the inspiration to use this material for a watch dial came from MD during a period of " searching" )

Well, it appears they can can sell (4) 4" coasters for $20.99. Using rough math (play along) that would equate to (16) watch dials at $1.31 per dial , and that's retail. Am sure the polymer cost pennies and is easier to work with (remember hearing JD and MD going on and on about how hard it was to create cutouts for the date) but it shows how hard they will scrimp to save a buck or less on a watch !!

So for those WatchGeeks who still say it doesn't matter because it still looks good, or still is a good value, when they (IWG, Eyal, JS, MD,etc) lie about the major attribute of a watch realize that it probably goes well beyond one component or one watch. Think of this when you start calculating value (current or future).

well stated. We old timers remember the Technic Swiss Ebauce lies and the Seiko & Invicta lies and many more. Do some research first.

The 'E' stands for Eyal our CEO. We co-developed it with Ronda.

co-developed - we did absolutely nothing but ask Ronda to give us a cheaper version of the 5040.
