Important info about SAN III LE Anniversary TTV

With all of this being said, some of you may have noticed how unique the "mother of pearl" looks in Jim's picture of the new Anniversary Edition of the SAN III. The reaosn that it looks unique is that it is, in fact, not mother of pearl in the sense you are use to seeing it. It is "River Pearl". A new material never before used by Invicta and only used by a handful of other brands in the world.

This fresh water mother of pearl comes from a large lake near the city of Shanghai in the Yangtze Delta Plain called Taihu or "Grand Lake". It is the 3rd largest lake of the 5 freshwater lakes that China is known for. The cultivation of this material from the Taihu Lake is strictly controlled with a quota and is heavily supervised. This assures a high level of eco and habitat friendliness. Please keep in mind that it takes a total of 7 years before this material can be harvested and start the special and delicate process of turning them into an Invicta dial. This material is unique in tone, providing a more of a muted marble like finish and are much more unique than "standard" mother of pearl. While the volume of material harvested is controlled, Invicta has the sorting/choice priority where we chose only the best in texture, color, size and uniformity. Additionally, our strict QC over this process ensures that there is no distortion, impurities, cracks, tears or any other signs of distress

Don't you mean Mussel shell dials from a polluted lake in China?

In May 2007, the lake was overtaken by a major algae bloom and by major pollution with cyanobacteria. The Chinese government called the lake a major natural disaster despite the anthropogenic origin of this environmental catastrophe. With the average price of bottled water rising to six times the normal rate, the government banned all regional water providers from implementing price hikes.

The lake provides water to 30 million residents, including about one million in Wuxi. By October 2007 it was reported that the Chinese government had shut down or given notice to over 1,300 factories around the lake. However, Wu Lihong, one of the leading environmentalists who had been publicizing the pollution of the lake, was sentenced to three years in prison for alleged extortion of one of the polluters,[4], but, undeterred, alleged in 2010 that not a single factory was closed.

Jiangsu province planned to clean up the lake, and chaired by Wen Jiabao the State Council set a target to clean Taihu Lake by 2012.. However, in 2010 The Economist reported that a fresh pollution outbreak had occurred, and that Wu, released from prison in April, was claiming that the government was trying to suppress news of it, all the while switching to other supplies in place of lake water.

Three of the lake's islands are known as the Sanshan Islands ('three hill islands'), one of the Chinese National Geological Parks. It was a notable haunt of bandits.

How fitting.....

Yet another SAIII with a Quartz GMT movement ... but with the right price of $160 it should be the first Invicta TTV sellout in a long long time but no way at $180.

It will be interesting to see if they will be able to go to the well yet once again with the SAN III.

I like the SAN III and it has no doubt been a hit for Invicta - but I have to think at some point they will reach market saturation. Everybody that likes them already has one (or several) so beyond the true Geek ass kissers who is left to buy one?

This is the crappiest, cheapest iteration of the SAN III so they had to invent some weak ass story about this MOP being different. I mean if thats all they can come up with (river pearl?) they are truly becoming desperate. Only the complete idiots and fandboys will beleieve this is not the same MOP they always use.

But fuck, who knows, maybe they will sell out. If they do then it calls into question everyone's hypothesis that Invicta is on the verge of collapse.

Great post BTW Koi.

Thanks:) Even if it sells out, the numbers are probably lower than before as to quanity availble. I also suspect we never know if a claimed sellout is true or not. We also have to remember that they are reeling in new viewers as the others get wise and move on. I thik they have beaten this watch to death IMO. I have one three hand auto from a few years ago. Never saw the need to buy anymore.

Anything Shop sells as a TTV from Invicta translates into combining the cheapest possible materials with the cheapest labor available with no quality control all being done for the benefit of you the customer.
Oh and only Invicta could bring you a river pearl that actually comes from a lake.
The phone lines are going to be jammed for this one. Fucking Morons!

What sweet irony if Invicta got sued for importing undeclared, Chinese freshwater mussel and defended themselves by producing sheets of the fake, stick-on MOP.

Besides, if info @ the link Koi provided is accurate, freshwater mussels must have swiftly flowing water to survive, not the still waters of a lake.

River pearl, anyone?

About that eco friendly bullshit and "river pearl" dials........

industrial pollution, fertilizer and pesticide application, eutrophication, overfishing, etc. Water quality has been deteriorating sharply in the lake. In this paper, we made a comprehensive assessment of the environmental and socio-economic issues to affect Taihu Lake ecosystem health. Pollution was identified as the most serious environmental concern. The root causes of these environmental problems are recognized to be diverse, including dense population, high urbanization, heavy industrialization, fast economic development, insufficient sewage treatment, weak public awareness of environment conservation, and lack of institutional capacity and insufficient enforcement through regulations and legislation. On the policy part, past and current policies and measures are reviewed, especially the “Zero” discharge action and phosphate ban in detergents in Taihu Basin

Received 23 October 2002. Available online 6 March 2003.

Abstract
Taihu Lake is the third largest freshwater lake in China. In recent years, the water pollution of cyanobacteria blooms has become a severe problem in this area. Microcystins (MCs) are an important group of toxic compounds mainly produced by some cyanobacteria species and have both acute and chronic hepatotoxic effects on animals and humans. This paper presents the first data on the identification and detection of MCs in both natural occurring cyanobacteria blooms and surface water samples (0−0.5 m), collected from Meiliang Bay, Taihu Lake, China. A conventional method for extraction and isolation of MCs from cyanobacteria blooms was applied. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed that the main toxic component in the cyanobacteria materials was MC-LR. The monoclonal antibody (mAb) against MC-LR produced by hybridoma technique was employed for direct competitive ELISA to detect the concentrations of MCs in bloom and water samples collected in 2001. The results not only revealed the presence of MCs but also temporal variations of MCs levels of three sampling stations in Meiliang Bay in 1 year. It is obvious that the MC contents were relatively higher during warm months and related with the status of eutrophication. Our study indicates the threat associated with MCs in water body of Taihu Lake. To prevent the MCs potential hazard on public health in this area, some necessary measures of monitoring and control of growth of cyanobacteria are urgently needed.

Received 14 June 2001; accepted 12 August 2002. ; Available online 21 November 2002.

Abstract
Organic pollutants, especially persistent organic pollutants were examined in the water and surface sediments of Taihu Lake, China. Both 12 water and 12 sediment samples were collected over the lake. C-18 solid-phase extraction technique was applied to extract organic pollutants in collected water samples. Soxhlet extraction procedure was used to extract organic pollutants in sediment samples. The analysis was performed by GC–MS controlled by a Hewlett Packard chemstation. Two hundred and seventy-three kinds of organic chemicals in water were examined, 200 more than that detected in 1985; 188 kinds of chemicals in sediments were detected as well. Among them 21 kinds of chemicals belong to priority pollutants as well as 17 kinds to be the endocrine disruptors. The concentrations of the pollutants were more than 2 times higher than that in 1985. The possible source and relation to anthropogenic activity were discussed.

Chinese Premier Wants Action On Taihu Lake Pollution

A poisonous algae bloom in Taihu lake in late May contaminated water supplies for several days for more than 2.3 million people in eastern China's lakeside city of Wuxi.

The crisis -- the result of years of industrial pollution and untreated sewage discharge -- sparked panic hoarding of bottled water drinking supplies and again highlighted a nationwide water problem.

More than 70 percent of China's waterways and 90 percent of its underground water are contaminated by pollution, according to government figures.

Wen said although some efforts to reduce pollution at the lake had been made in recent years, "the problem had never been tackled at its root."

This month, authorities ordered towns around Taihu to shut down all polluting factories and meet new water emission standards by the end of June 2008.

Chemical factories that failed to do so would have operations suspended or shut down permanently, the report said.

Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan, who also attended the conference, demanded the government ensure the safety of drinking water and environmental watchdogs step up their supervision of factories that discharged pollutants into Taihu Lake.

Last evening, "I never work late hour watch shows" skelton was on at 1AM Central time touting Invicta. The former TTV River Pearl SAIII in this thread was shown. This time the story changed to River Pearl is from a River in China. No mention of the eco friendly harvesting, famous lake, just a river. Jill did correct him and say it was Fresh water mother of pearl which means squat to most.

I own a three-hand SAII bought from an AD for the love of god. I also loved it so much, I had it custom lumed and bead-blasted. I was a sucker for Invicta at one time as well.
