True Story about Omega Speedmaster and NASA Space Program

You have heard this and that or read somewhere on the net and believe them. But DO NOT believe everything you read on the internet. Here is the TRUE story told by the Omega Museum Manager, Mr. Petros Protopapas.

One evening in somewhere in Tokyo, several people were invited (no journalist, just Omega fans) to a dinner where Mr. Protopapas, we were told, would talk about the true history of our beloved "Speedy". Most of the attendees, who supposedly knew almost everything about Speedy were shocked to learn by some of the topics Mr. Protopapas spoke of. Now, let us recap what are true and what are wrong information.

The Omega Speedmaster, the only watch to fail on a space mission! The author left that out for some reason 8-)

Think is a tale of a sunken Breitling somewhere as well.... ;) ...in general, marketing bullshit for the masses.

Omega has a knack for inflating the importance of its product with spurious dramatic connections, from moon landings to spy movies. Otherwise mature men repeatedly lose their minds and start blabbering adolescent man-love dribble over that stuff.

And no one mentions it in the article's comments, either.

I love Omega watches, would wear any given to me; but, one would have to be a WIT style fanboi not to recognize this for what it is. Marketing.

Disparage the Speedmaster? Why? It's a great watch...

Only Omega's marketing is something that I find revolting in how they're pushing the cal. 861/1861 Speedmasters as "Moonwatches."

This article has got to be the fifth theory about which Speedmasters were sold to the NASA (and worn on the Moon) that I've heard of.
So far, I've seen the following theories:

145.022 (Omega's theory, for marketing purposes)
145.012 and 145.022
2x 145.012
2x 105.012

...and now, 105.003.
