The company’s focus has been turned towards its aviation line in recent years so the relaunch of the Frogman is a timely one. In fact, the last dive watch to come from Hamilton was the Khaki Sub Auto in 2013 – not so long ago, then, but not something which stuck fast in the memory.
The Frogman takes its name and design elements from a watch produced by Hamilton as a tool for the US Navy’s divers in the early 20th century. This being Hamilton, its dive watches have a Hollywood connection too: the Frogman made its debut in the 1951 film The Frogmen. Apparently this was the first Hamilton to feature in a Hollywood film; something that – particularly in recent years – has become the main marketing drive of the brand, supplying watches to the Men in Black series, The Martian and Interstellar.
