Watch You're Wearing, 19 October 2017

Postby Mortuus » October 19th 2017, 1:59am

Mort's Moldy Mechanical Minute: A three-picture capture of one of my favorite watches from my vintage collection, and it's made even more special by the very unusual-but-compelling automatic movement, first developed by the Citizen Watch Company back in the mid-1950's, that resides within its massive 41mm case.

Image

The brand is Citizen Jet, and the model nomenclatura is the "Auto-Dater," which, by a happy coincidence ( ;) ), is the same moniker borne by the aforementioned unusual-but-compelling movement.

Image

The diagram above shows how it works, and it's pretty self-explanatory, unless you're a mentally ill Invicter hoarder (ah, but I repeat myself) from Fairfax, VA, who wears Spiderman Comic t-shirts, in which case there's no hope for you, anyway. (Not even a scintilla, you buffoon...)

Image
Three of my four "Auto-Dater's," from left-to-right, the Citizen SEVEN, Today's WURW Jet, and the Jet 14kt gold-plated, 35-jewel model.

Have a way-cool Thursday, all!

I have not worn this Enicar (my first) in ages. Totally in love with it again.

I haven't worn this watch for almost 40 years.
