CBS fucks up yet another gun report

CBS fucks up yet another gun report

Postby Hawk » March 30th 2016, 10:18am

Hot on the heels of their fabulously incorrect "states with most guns" which was based on figures from the NFA registry (thus showing DC with the highest ownership rate) they follow with a "most popular guns in America" piece.

Even when they're trying to inform rather (or along with) inflame they can't seem to get their heads out of their ass.

Wherein they take some figures from Gunbroker and the ATF.

So what's wrong with taking numbers from the ATF you rightly ask?

The ATF only tracks domestic production.

As such they fly through the entire list of the top 25 with nary of mention of Glock or Springfield.

This is like leaving Swatch and LVMH out of a list of watch producers.

A couple of Brazilian Taurus models make the list compliments of Gunbroker but the Brazilian Imbel and Croatian HS Produkt (Springfield's 1911 and XD line respectively) are MIA. When they're not confusing a bullpup with a pistol grip they're selling the idea that Henry's Golden Boy and Big Boy are major players in the market.

Whadda fuckin' mess.

This is what comes of herbivores writing firearms stories. Even with a tagline of "targeting the facts" they manage to miss the mark.

On the brighter side the prohibitionists will sail through the list wondering what all the fuss is about. The only "assault weapon-ish" looking things are the Kel-Tec Sub-2000, the Ruger Precision with the "scary" award probably going to the Kel-Tec KSG possibly because they pulled the picture off -- wait for it -- the video game Grand Theft Auto. As such I shouldn't complain but what they're doing to the facts I wouldn't do to a rented mule.

Josh Sugarman is going to scold them something fierce over this.
When two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.

What, my Bond Snake Slayer didn't make the list?

Used Bond arms web site for the photo.
