"This breaks the world!" Bladerunner 2049

Postby Falstaff » October 8th 2017, 10:53am

Quote is from Robin Wright's character Lt. Joshi aka "Madame" - boss of the Bladerunners - and sets up the plot in Bladerunner 2049.

I've been waiting for this one for a long time. Went to see it last night with Lady F. Just fantastic - breathtaking, in fact! Much has happened in 35 years. Ridley Scott's original gritty, hardscrabble LA under Denis Villeneuve's direction is even grittier, seamier and darker than before. No scary Roy Baty in this one but Bladerunners are still "retiring" renegade replicants. Inspired acting from Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoek, Robin Wright and a haunted, grizzled Harrison Ford - not to mention a cameo from James Edward Olmos. Is Rick Deckard actually a replicant? What happened to Rachel? Answers some questions, but uncertainty rules - as it should. Do androids dream of electric sheep? Well, do they? Happy ending? You take your happiness where you can find it, I guess....

Any other Lords seen it?

I've been waiting for this one too. Saw it yesterday, very pleased. The atmosphere, long silences, vehicles, and the story were excellent. It's such a beautiful film. Amazing sequel, 9 out of 10 for me.

Did you happen to see the three short films that fill in the story?

To be clear for anyone who has not seen the film. These videos came out before 2049's release and were commissioned by the director to fill in the story between the original and the sequel.
