Braille Smartwatch

Postby jaw » September 17th 2017, 6:51am

South Korean company Dot has developed a smartwatch that only displays information in braille, and is calling it a world first. Intended to help visually impaired people lead independent and fulfilling lives, the Dot Watch is a streamlined smart device that offers information without hassle.

The minimalist design features a large circular face with a moving keyboard that relays braille text in real time. While its main function is to tell the time and date, the watch can be connected to a smartphone application called the Dot Watch App, to receive information such as road navigation, weather notifications, calls and text messages, as well as social media alerts. Made from silver aluminium, the watch utilises four electro-magnetic actuators that seamlessly relay information through textural dots. These automatically adopt the formations of braille numbers and symbols.

Have seen one for the visually impaired; but, not one with Braille.
Wonder what the price will be?

Runs about $350 and utilizes a tactile system.

The world needs both! My Dad has lost a fair amount of vision at 85 and I would opt for the EOne for him.

The Dalai Lama: Hey, Stevie, what time is it?

Stevie Wonder: Dunno. Let me feel my Ball over here.

Jeebus, that's worse than the one about poor Helen Keller's phone ringing and her burning her face because she answered the waffle iron... :???:

You could use Lance Armstrong in this joke rather than Stevie Wonder. Assuming that Armstrong was blind. Which he isn't. But if he was, it'd be a good laff.
