Stunning! Love the Blackbird DLC model.

I've always wondered how well the finish would hold up.

From what I've read it's much more durable than PVD. DLC (Diamond Like Coating) has held up better than expected for some over at BreitlingSource.com. One mentioned seeing a dent photo where the DLC wasn't affected. Course he also said...

RJRJRJ wrote:...I think its very similar in concept to powder coating, in the sense that it sort of becomes part of the metal. Of course, it can be damaged, but it is much more durable than the painted-on concept that people imagine....

Sounds like bonding at the molecular level to me ;). I will, of course defer to the Don for all things Breitling.

Even though I love the idea of a black Steelfish I will not be buying this one. My collection is already rather Breitling heavy. It's probably my #2 favorite brand behind Omega.

Of course, that is after-market DLC or whatever the coating is. Breitling never made a "Blacksteel" Steelfish and has never made a "Blacksteel" bracelet for any model. The "A" in the model number stands for "stainless Steel." A DLC model number begins with "M." I guess that's why the seller calls it "rare." That plus suggesting by omission this is a factory model is rather deceptive IMO. The listed price is fucking ridiculous - you can get a pre-owned Blacksteel Blackbird for less.

The factory DLC held up well on the Blacksteel Blackbird I had.

Sometmes we compare PVD and DLC, but PVD is a process - physical vapor deposition, and DLC - diamond like carbon, is a material applied by physical vapor deposition.
I think we need a Newer New Testament. You know, the one where God reveals His new covenant with corporations.
