Schools Are Getting Rid Of Analog Clocks

Schools Are Getting Rid Of Analog Clocks

Postby koimaster » June 29th 2018, 10:10am

For as long as clocks have been in classrooms, teachers have been frustrated by them — usually because the kids are distracted by watching the hands tick away the seconds until recess.

In a sign of our fast-changing times, though, it appears students now struggle with reading a traditional clock. As a result, some schools in the United Kingdom decided to toss out analog clocks because they are causing too much confusion and distraction for children.

While they're at it they should get rid of math too because students have trouble understanding it. My parents taught me how to tell time before I even started school.
I suppose that today they are too busy to teach their kids stuff .
I'm glad I'll probably be dead in 20 years.

I'm working on being dead sooner than that.

Apparently it's easier to do away with something than teach it. Like history, for example.

Dumbing down of kids......
Can't tell time w/o digital, can't write in cursive, can't keep face out of phone screen.

I do this often (because I'm old and easily amused).
Purchase something for say $2.25 and give the kid two green backs, a quarter and a nickel. Kid punches in $2.30, puts the money in the till, reads the screen and being clueless, hands me back my nickel. I thank them and move along.

I fuck with them in a similar fashion. Something costs 6 bucks and I'll give them 11 bucks, then hilarity ensues until til I tell them I want a 5 back. As I walk away with my 5 dollar bill they are still standing,slack-jawed, wondering what I did to them. Good times.

My niece likes the Flik Flak I gave her, but she doesn't set it, just wears it as jewelry. She said she can figure out the time if she thinks about it. Her brother, meanwhile, is getting another watch for his birthday, and the prices have been slowly climbing on the ones I get him. Unfortunately, I got a message from USPS that it was delivered today, but there's no sign of it.

Anyway, the question I've had for years is this. When I think of time, time passing, I tend to think of it circularly. How do the digital kids (who think in pictures, like I do) think of it? Is it linear?
Is it safe?

My 20yr daughter wears a blue Mako. No indication at all that she has any trouble telling time.
