Finally found my grail.

Finally found my grail.

Postby Mark1 » February 9th 2018, 5:15pm

Okay, not really. I don't like the term grail because it seems so overused in this hobby. But I did just purchase a watch I have been looking for since 2010. First saw the watch in a picture at Gnomon's site for some straps they were then selling. The watch at that time was no longer available. I have seen only two of these come up for sale since. The first was on Ebay and I could not get the seller to respond to a couple questions I had. Never the less, an offer was made and I did not even get a reply. Strike one. Finally another popped up on Chrono24 very recently. It's listed by a private seller in Austria. Before today I had never purchased a watch through Chrono24. Some of you may know how this site works, I didn't, but now feel more assured about the deal after speaking to their US representative. The way they sell watches is that once you agree to buy the watch, your payment goes into an escrow account. After you receive the watch you have an opportunity (7-14 days depending on the seller) to make sure it meets your expectations. Only then are the funds released to the seller. If there is an issue, I am told that Chrono24 will get involved to mediate it.
So anyway, enough words-now the wait. Approximately two weeks more or less depending on Customs and whatnot. If any of you have used Chrono24 before please tell me about your experience with them.

Chrono 24 is an international source for watches many of them being sold by European jewellers. I had never heard of this escrow but I know they have recently created a payment venue that goes through Chrono24 to the seller. I have bought two Muhle Glasshutte at insanely low prices. The first time was directly between me and the jeweler, the second was through the Chrono24 payment venue. I would buy with absoluteconfidence with any German store, hell look at Bucherer, they just bought Tourneau. I also bought a brand new JLC Squadra from Spain with no issue. The only problem I had was one seller did not back the VAT tax out of the transaction and I had to write them to get the refund.

Can’t wait to find out what it is.

Have looked at Chrono24 multiple times. Good to know about the escrow.

Good on ya, Mark. Looking forward to seeing how this all comes out. I've never read anything bad about the whole Chrono 24 process. I found the Rolex I bought on Chrono 24, but since the watch was being sold within driving distance, I went and picked it up on my own instead of placing an order online.
Bet those Swiss Legend owners are so happy their "Sapphitek" crystals have a 10-year warranty. Oh, wait...

What a freaking ordeal. The watch has just shown in transit from Post Express Austria since the 13th. Express my ass, today, it finally updated to show it has arrived at JFK. Another week maybe and I'll have that bad boy.
