SHINOLA's First Automatic - the "Lake Erie Monster"

Will be purchased by those folk who fall for the marketing, but know little about watches and imagine at that price they're getting something really special. Not many brands get the coverage that Shinola gets (for free) from the mainstream media - "reviving Detroit", "made in America", "American jobs", etc.

How could they possibly come up with the name Shinola. Did someone NOT tell them the negative phrase associated with that name. I didn't know the shoe polish company went out of business in 1960, but I'm old enough to remember it. Guess I haven't shined my shoes as much as I should, but I grew up with that phrase. Haven't seen the watches locally, but then again, I haven't been looking. Yeah, I'd have to agree it's a tad pricey when there are so many alternatives. Domestic production still doesn't warrant that price.

Monster fits it as a name and at the bottom of "Lake Erie" is where it belongs.

:chump:
The Loch Ness Monster would probably be appalled, if someone would have named a watch quite as boring after him (or her, after all they call it Nessie, which doesn't sound masculine). Apparently - and unfortunately - American aquatic cryptids don't have anything against Shinolas being named after them.
An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
