SHINOLA's First Automatic - the "Lake Erie Monster"

SHINOLA's First Automatic - the "Lake Erie Monster"

Postby Mortuus » November 7th 2017, 12:49pm

"In 1894, sailors in Lake Erie spotted a menacing creature. It was said to be over 40 feet long and coiled, swimming at the crest of a swell in the water. It came to be known as the Lake Erie Monster. It is believed to still be out there among the thousands of shipwrecks on the floor of Lake Erie.

To celebrate the beauty and rich diving history of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes, and the lore of this unidentified creature, we’re proud to introduce the Lake Erie Monster Dive Watch. This timepiece celebrates two exciting milestones for Shinola—our first Dive watch, and the first Shinola watch with an automatic movement.

Limited Edition, only 500 available." And the price?
Spoiler:
$2,250 USD

I was expecting not to like it when I clicked the link, but that's not bad at all. I can't do the 43mm size and I'm not crazy about the price, but it looks nice.

Not awful but way overpriced.
Nice to see Ronda getting into automatic movements.

So, a dive watch that costs two hundred bucks more than a Seiko Marinemaster, and made in Detroit? Sign me up, forthwith!

Sure, 200 $ more than the MM, but, there's only 500 of these. That said, the price is no-where near enough! And it comes with a flashlight to recharge the lime in case it burns out.

A really boring version of an already boring design. It still wouldn't be interesting at a third the price. Meh

Odd. I have no feelings about this one way or another. It looks all right. It's probably okay

I can't get over the whole early Shinola BS. Gimme Dan Henry.

Wasn't there a member here who saw Shinolas deeply discounted at a B&M? I've seen several Filson (made by Shinola) watches in the case with a bunch of Invicta dreck at my local TJMaxx, and they were selling, IIRC, for around a buck fifty.

With discounting like this, why the hell does Shinola even think that they can sell a pretty simple auto dive watch for over two grand?
